Be as competative as you like, the only thing to bear in mind is the commitment of your fellow team mates, ie a certain person who simply went home after a few hours of D2D.

On the 26th of April I did a small loop near the house.
Avg 8.6
29.1 max

Yesterday I did almost the same and the onboard number cruncher spat this out
Avg 8.6
23.8 max
5.78 miles
40.06 mins

Riding at night is bloody brilliant and sheds an entirely different perspective on the trail, especially when trees rustle, you catch eyes in your lights and its so very very quiet
Shopping list now includes a head torch as its hard to see round bends and a bandana type thing for under the skidlid, my head was freezing at some points.

TBH, the track will be fairly tame and endurance is the name of the game.
If you look on www.konasits.co.uk and follow the links to the 2006 results on singletrackworld, you will see that the winning team in the sports men catagory were lapping on average at 41 minuets.
Now we're are not aiming anywhere close to that, to finish in the top 10 would be an achievement which if we all ride at 10mph+ average and field a rider at all times is quite possible. Hence the last 45 pages have had average riding times listed.
This, based on a 7/8 mile loop would give us lap times of approximatly 40 minuets putting us in the top 10.
Also bear in mind that night laps are slower so we have to factor that into the equation.
The top team have a sound plan (if it works is another matter) with a few girlies as support crew, as well as access to gas burners, nandrelone courtesy of Alex's dad, gazebos, generators etc so we're going to try and do it properly.

[:D] One of the lads has a standard one and a night runner we can have use of. The night one will come in very VERY handy.
Have you got proper lights sorted yet?

Awwww Andrew, why would you let anyone down? If you're getting stage fever, don't worry! I'm sure noone would find it horrible if you're not fast enough or if you nearly die of tiredness or whatever and therefore stop. You seemed really interested!

Hell, we're all gonna be slow (other than El Cap) - finishing is the key!

I don't think anyone will be bothered if you're a bit slower Andrew, as most would be incredibly happy they have a team in the first place.
I think team 2 would consist of SimonB256, Whyamihere (if he can manage the cash?), you and someone else. Nothing other than those has been said here, but I don't think you should worry too much about being 'too crap' cause you won't be.

It's the idea of not being fast enough to be honest. Just think the other guys would be pissed off if im far slower than they are.
<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"></font id="quote">
Trust me, this isn't going to be about speed. It's about endurance. If you can sit on your bike and ride for 4 or so hours, then you're more than qualified.
And anyway, you've got to turn up, so I can steal your bikes. [:D]

17.5 mph on the way into work. Depending upon what time I get to leave (whether it's still daylight!) I shall be trying to break the hour again!

Meh! I'm not that good a rider really, I just better at suffering...
That said, at a certain 12 hour night race last year, I completed a 9.2 mile lap in 48 minutes, 15 seconds. This was the fastest lap from the MBUK Forum entrants. The next fastest forumite lap was some 4 minutes 44 seconds down. Incidentally, this was also by me. The next fastest forumite lap after that was 6 minutes 57 down from my fastest lap. That was by Dan (my son), who unfortunately is too young to take part in a 24hr event this year. The next fastest lap, was some 7 minutes 50 seconds slower than my first lap, ridden by someone on here, who is half my age (and probably half my weight) who would also be one of my team mates for the forthcoming SITS.
