Can't work out if that was planned or he just got a gap through the one tight corner.

That was definitely planned - you can see the way the bunch piles up behind them.

    It was also very funny.
  • When some proper hills finally make a show, makes sense WVA is likely to be Jumbo best bet against the likes of Pidders etc.

Hilarious the way Kooij and the other JV rider slow up just as everyone is trying to get on their wheels and stall all the other sprinters. Got to have been planned

Yeah it was planned ...they are having fun with it.

Hang on, we did this during Glasgow. Potholes are now nids de poule, and Britain's answer to pavé. The TdB organisers should lean into it and number particularly egregious sections.

If nothing else it'll give us something to talk about.

At some point Jumbo will let van aert roll off the front in the run in and gain a few seconds. No one else is close enough to turn to chase.

    This?
    You win

They should have a stage which goes through Basingstoke and finishes in Swindon. Not for a good race, but the stress of that number of roundabouts would push Carlton Kirby into retirement.

  • Oh god yes. Send them through this thing, and let them discover what choosing the wrong side of a roundabout really means. You'll still be rounding up riders three days later...

Did we come up with a better cycling name for roundabout? Rond-point? Doesn't have the same poetic feel as nids-de-poule. Rotonde?

Then we can make them a proper feature...

Carlton actually used 'rotunda' yesterday. Not sure if it was the official Spanish word in the roadbook though to be fair, they were describing the turn off the main road with 4km to go that he was having kittens about.

Just as well that section was all neutralised with the badly parked cars everywhere.

  • All back together again, but lots of attacks off the front, Jumbo and Ineos chasing down attacks.

    ~92Km to go.

I rode over to the start and was horrified at the fact they hadn't cleared the cars off the road. Neutralised, but just before KM0.

Wasn't particularly impressed with the rolling road closure either, there were cars coming the other way literally 2 minutes before the convey came through, on a very narrow lane.

Must be time for Bennett to swallow his pride and retire when his leadout man does what he has been unable to manage.
  • Depends, does he get credit for Ned and Alan calling him home by mistake?

  • Pidders DNS as they start a stage with some real hills. :o

WVA leading the chase to the breakaway that's down to four after the second cat 2 KOM, rest of Jumbo dropped.

~24Km left, ~30secs gap after the climb.
