Vinokourov won the mens' 50-54 Gran Fondo!

I whose blood he was using!
Does seem more than a little unfair that ex-pros can enter.

Vinokourov won the mens' 50-54 Gran Fondo!

2nd place will be enjoying a holiday in the Seychelles next week?
  • Not sure who of you are into having a flutter but I would definitely advise against a bet on Michael Matthews tomorrow. Boy's on a mad wan.

  • Fair play to Clare Balding and Chris Hoy for not piling straight into Katie Archibald earlier to try and get her to cry on camera for the impact. I know Hoy asked about the emotions of today, but he did it in a way that left her plenty of escape routes (and signalled them clearly) to talk about those emotions in terms of the cycling and not Rab.

Rab would have nailed the Marathon too. Course was his.

I didn’t see the interview, but during the Tour, the incessant ‘was this for Gino’ questioning to any Bahrain rider did seem unfair to those riders who were then expected to show grief on demand (even if they didn’t know him that well)

I think it was Chris Hoy who did a pre-champs interview with her that’s on the BBC site so he’d covered everything then. He presumably knows her well. Someone must have restrained Balding as it is exactly the sort of thing I would have expected her to do.
  • On the roll out. Great crowds in Edinburgh.
Pinno and co will need to mute the sound as they are kicking off with Rob "hyperbole" Hatch on comms.

He's not rushing to get back to the bunch.

    Edit:
The race is underway without him.

  • Just switched to the BBC red button which also has whole race coverage, to hear Ned Boulting on commentary.
Hayley somebody is co commentator, but I haven’t heard her before.
    Chris Boardman too.

  • Watching on bbc too - I miss Brotherton. Have a soft spot for his understated comms.

Wonder if Boulting will rein it in a bit

    Agreed. Hands down.
  • I know he was never going to win, but wtf is George Bennett doing? Sat in no mans land between a breakaway he was never going to catch and the peloton. I can understand the guys with him getting some TV time but not Bennett.

    Am I missing something?
  • I agree with the commentators over not allowing this break too long a leash.
They are definitely not the usual suspects one finds in a world championship breakaway.

Does the breakaway get it's lead back when race restarts?

BBC commentary team suggesting such circumstances are a good reason for race radios.
