Could tell I wasn't a superfan because I didn't recognise the obscure b-sides they played tonight.TheBigBean said:

Sinead O’Connor has passed away. An utterly beautiful voice.

Aw, ffs, Sinead has passed. Way too young. I loved her attitudes. RIP girl.0

I only really know her from the 1990 Nothing Compares 2U, but there was definitely something about her that you don't often get in pop/rock.
Can there ever have been a more perfectly timed tear?0 -

Bloody hell, really didn't expect that.
I don't think she'd had an easy life, even from the little I know, so I'm not entirely surprised that she didn't go into mellow old age, for whatever reason.0 -
She was more punk than most.
She truly walked the walk and put her money where her mouth was.
Rare amount of integrity.
May she rest in peace.0 -
I don’t know much of her stuff either but her vocals on Nothing Compares 2U were beautiful and really did the song writing justice (I only discovered it was a Prince song when he died).0

Back here for Pulp on Saturday.
I saw Pulp in Sheffield the other weekend. Absolutely superb. I saw them a couple of times in the 90's. and they haven't 'lost it' at all. Jarvis is just brilliant. Stage show is cool, too.kingstongraham said:Back here for Pulp on Saturday.

Saw Teenage Fanclub doing an in store performance last night.kingstongraham said:
Saw them in 21 and it's not the same without Gerard Love, but I love Euros Childs' voice on backing vocals, he really is a good recruit.skyblueamateur said:I haven’t listened to ‘guitar’ bands for years as a lot of it bores the living censored out of me but have recently rediscovered the utter pop genius of Teenage Fanclub.
Controversial as I love Big Star but Bandwagonesque and Grand Prix are as good as anything they released.
Takes me back to seeing them at the Astoria in god knows when. Sublime.
They don't play Gerard's songs any more. Imagine being able to ditch Star Sign, December, Sparkys Dream, Discolite, I Need Direction.
The new album is really nice, some lovely songs in the style you'd expect. Again, Euros Childs harmonies are so good, he really brings out the best in the new songs.

Went to see Stop Making Sense at the cinema yesterday - I'd never seen it before.
It really is good, David Byrne is just electric, the staging is superb, and the film itself is superbly made. (You've got to not hate Talking Heads, obviously.)0 -
So as not to derail the sanctity of the Death Pool thread, this is still my favourite "woah" for samples. Kicks in at 2:10. Also has Chas from Chas and Dave playing guitar on it, which is a fun fact.

Isn't there a guy who on here who is a DJ who plays tracks from the 70s which are all sampled in modern hip hop0 -
These guys must just listen to any old stuff and just have an ear for what's right. Who would have put this on in the first place?shirley_basso said:

But this one I am sure there is NOBODY who won't recognise. From 1979. Make it to 4:54 and there's a bonus sample.

Latest in Kingston - The Streets. Truly a great show, I don't know if Mike Skinner is always like that but he decided to make it his mission to touch everyone in the venue. Could well have achieved it.

Had Jo Whiley's R2 programme on the other night, think I heard her saying the track she played was from the first The Streets work in 11 years? Time passes dunnit.
Never seen Mike S live or that but always though him A+0 -

It's a shame they don't have a Harrison guitar part from '95. McCartney doing a "Harrison style" solo definitely isn't quite it.
I like it, I like hearing Paul's frail voice with Lennon's solid vocals. And Ringo's drumming absolutely spot on as always.
Better than I expected, a good ending to the story.0
