Rod Stewart supported by Culture club and The Who have just played at Craven Park Hull. Neither sold out and they were that desperate to sell the tickets they were going for one pound fifty pence on the day.
Apparently Hull KR who’s ground it is stand to make a big loss.0 -

But yes, I can see how they’d lose money.

Thought it was eclectic but even Rod Stewart supported by Culture Club is a bit of an odd mix!webboo said:

Yeah, I would have thought the promoter pays them for use of the venue.morstar said:

Got tickets for Queens of the Stone Age in Newcastle, last saw them at T in the Park 2005, hopefully they can still do it!
Also going to some interesting blues acts at the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival next week.0 -
Yes! Seeing QOTSA at the O2 in November. If their glasto set is to go by, they still have it.vincesummerskRoxcBTr said:Got tickets for Queens of the Stone Age in Newcastle, last saw them at T in the Park 2005, hopefully they can still do it!

Me and the missus are heading up to Stornoway on Thursday to the HebCelt festival.
We are roughing it staying in the Royal Hotel🤣. Thursday is Skerryvore, Friday is Peat and Diesel, Saturday is Niteworks.
There a fair few other bands on including one called the Proclaimers.0 -

We did that one year as a holiday touring the Outer Hebrides. Hebcelt one weekend followed by Barrafest the next. Such chilled out party weekends!webboo said:Me and the missus are heading up to Stornoway on Thursday to the HebCelt festival.

I see that Barrafest no longer exists. Shame as that was a major party! The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I’m not sure Mrs W could contemplate the thought of 2 festivals. When I suggested we could just get food at the festival, the outcome was we are having having evening meals in the hotel each evening.pblakeney said:

The bands we want to see are on at 22:00, 22:00 and 19:45 when I informed her of this I got the impression 3 late nights could be testing her stamina. I assured her we could have a nanna nap after our evening meal before venturing out for the night.💤0 -
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go-go-go with a total dedication
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go, here we go, here we go
As some sort of prototype I serve to be
You see tomorrow's dream has never been part of me
Consume today and leave the rest behind you
Tomorrow's a surprise party buy a ticket or two (two)
Faster livin', faster, live as fast as you're able
Eat the food while it's still hot on the table (table)
Now spend if you can, the greens are burning in your pocket
If you spend it right now you'll get as high as a rocket
Everything you don't use will lose its value tomorrow
Consumed too much today, you can always borrow
This paradigm's the best one since the day of creation
Get your gear and shape up, this is the revelation
Shop till you drop has built this civilization
Don't believe what you hear 'bout the next generation
If you go with a lot of toys you'll slip away a happy man
The greens are burning in you pocket, spend it while you can
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go-go-go with a total dedication
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go, here we go, here we go
The moon and the stars they all look down on me and say
There's a correlation between tomorrow and today
I say you won't gain a thing on that sick repudiation
We're right here, right now, that's the only situation
You can't fool me, we live on borrowed time
So I spend the funds I have to the nickel and dime
Check it in, check it out, it's not a matter of contention
Get your gear and shape up and join the church of consumption
Use it in, wear it out, then throw it all away
Go get yourself a new one all you gotta do is pay
Because the more I will get, the more I will own
With a lot of things around me I will never feel alone
I work around the clock just to earn my livin'
And I wanna get, I won't spend my funds on givin', now
I'm acting irresponsible, is that what you say?
Hey, Somalia got my toaster just the other day
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go-go-go with a total dedication
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go, here we go, here we go
Here we go again
Here we go-go-go to the temple of consumption
Get your gear and start to spend
Here we go-go-go with a total dedication
Oh, oh
Oooooh
Here we go again

I haven’t listened to ‘guitar’ bands for years as a lot of it bores the living sh1t out of me but have recently rediscovered the utter pop genius of Teenage Fanclub.
Controversial as I love Big Star but Bandwagonesque and Grand Prix are as good as anything they released.0 -
Saw them in 21 and it's not the same without Gerard Love, but I love Euros Childs' voice on backing vocals, he really is a good recruit.skyblueamateur said:I haven’t listened to ‘guitar’ bands for years as a lot of it bores the living censored out of me but have recently rediscovered the utter pop genius of Teenage Fanclub.

Takes me back to seeing them at the Astoria in god knows when. Sublime.
They don't play Gerard's songs any more. Imagine being able to ditch Star Sign, December, Sparkys Dream, Discolite, I Need Direction.0 -
Incredible collection of songs tbh. They will be our generations Big Star which is slightly ironic.kingstongraham said:

It's entirely possible.TheBigBean said:
Do you think Blur are in their prime?Jezyboy said:
I'd guess in music you only know who is in their prime retrospectively.TheBigBean said:
I do completely get this and many retired sports stars top up their income in senior events. I just don't understand why the group of people is greater than when the performers were in their prime.Jezyboy said:
I don't think they sold that many tickets...kingstongraham said:
I'm more surprised that Def Leppard are playing Wembley Stadium.TheBigBean said:Red Hot Chili Peppers have been in gradual decline since the 80s.
Re the popularity of older bands, I'd guess for many blur fans (to pick an example) a lot missed them the first time around, and for many others nostalgia is extremely powerful.

Well me and the Mrs managed to cope with our first ever festival last week. She wasn’t too happy down the front when it kicked off but it was a fantastic experience.
If you have said to us this time last year we were going to drive over 500 miles and catch a ferry to watch a band who’s lead singer/ guitarist would be on stage wearing a police Scotland baseball cap, a cut off Blondie T-shirt, shorts and yellow trawlermans wellies. I would have questioned your sanity but it was mega trip.
The fine dining in the hotel went down very well.1 -

Always been a fan since the 90s but not a superfan really. I didn't buy a ticket for Wembley until I saw the reviews for the first night. But the new album is good and they are playing it in full in Hammersmith tonight so would be foolish not to try to get tickets.TheBigBean said:
