Annemiek is back doing Annemiek things. Van Vleuten wins stage 2 of the Giro Donne and leads by 49 seconds from Uttrup Ludwig. Attacked on the final 5km of the final (only) climb. 100th professional victory.

Feels wrong posting it in here as it really isn’t a s*** small race, but Annemiek van Vleuten wrapped up the Giro Donne today. She won 3 stages and takes the GC ahead of Labous and Realini. Despite the pre-race problems (looked like it was going to be cancelled due to TV issues) it ended up being a great race. The parcours was much tougher than it looked and the racing was good. AvV has now won the Vuelta (by cunning) and the Giro and her form has definitely improved massively from the spring. Vollering is still the favourite for the TDFF but it should be a good contest. This is AvV’s 4th Giro and she’s now won 5 or 6 Grand Tour GCs in a row (depending on your definition of a “grand tour” or not). Regardless, still very impressive.

I got to meet up with AvV and Paula Patino on Stage 5 (we’ve ridden together in Colombia a couple of times)

Thanks for the update. Seems mad they don't run it a week earlier when there's a little space before the juggernaut of the men's tour.

Yeah, calendar needs a major rethink.

Bumps up against the national champs, I suppose. Seems crazy to have it right at the time when everyone is looking in another direction though.

It also means it is very close to the TDF Femmes (I know that's a newer event but its position straight after the men makes sense). Giro Donne doing similar would be more logical.

Still not much love for Women's cycling, even on a bike forum.

I watched quite a lot in the Classics season but putting the Giro on at the same time as the biggest, most famous race of them all is never going to benefit the women.

It shouldn’t get discussed in this thread though. I was looking for the women’s racing thread last week and couldn’t find it.

I'll definitely be doing the Lanterne Rouge Femmes again, if that makes anyone happier? It probably clashes with my holiday but meh, the family will forgive me the desperate hunting for power sockets, I'm sure.

Darren Rafferty, who looks to be the next big thing in Irish cycling, wins the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d'Aosta. He should be going World Tour next year. It'll be interesting to see who with.

    EF-Easypost. It's a done deal apparently.

Worth adding that FDJ Devo's British rider, Joshua Golliker, won two of the stages (and held the lead for a day).

We definitely need a dedicated Women's Racing thread

Pretty sure there is one but the search function on here isn’t great especially on a phone.

    Thanks!

That'll bring their average age down. A decent team for him I'd imagine. He should get plenty of chances to show what he can do. Looking at his results, I see that, besides being a decent climber, he won U23 Strade Bianche and is 2x Irish U23 TT champ. Seems to be a bit of an all-rounder.

Watching Circuit de Wallonie, on the catch up, well poor tv coverage, was rolling along then live feeds lost, lots of finish line live coverage, hope it gets sorted.

Anyways: Luke Rowe being Luke Rowe in G style glasses. And some plonker chose to bring his combine harvester onto the course. In Belgium!

Or I could just fast forward...

And I did FF: no idea how the commentary team (Pippa Y and Jose Been?) coped with nothing but the finish line camera feeds. Don't bother seeking it out. Ganna won the sprint finish.

Ineos do an SD Worx in the TT stage of the Tour of Wallonie, taking a 1-2-3 with Ganna, Tarling and Swift.

Which of them are riding the Vuelta? It opens with a TTT... Jumbo Visma likely to blow that up anyway

Would never have expected Swift to be one of them in a TT.

De Plus, Sivakov, Arensman and Ganna were in Andorra with G. So Giro squad minus Tao plus Rowe is probably not far off

Need at least two of G, Rowe and De Plus for pods!

Ben Tulett was there too. I'd also imagine Carlos Rodriguez will be in their Vuelta squad.

Are you talking about Ben? He'll be 22 next month and did the Giro last year.

Tarling only 8 seconds behind Ganna. I know Ganna isn't the rider he was a couple of years ago but that's impressive for a 19 year old.

There doesn’t seem to be any live coverage of the Tour of Poland from GCN/Eurosport again this year.

So much for having to provide international coverage in order to qualify as a WT race.

TVP Sport requires a VPN or dodgy stream.
