As long as he still allows the "latest tweets" view, I can't see my carefully curated list being swamped with hatred.

As I block any advertisers, it's also virtually ad free.

And as the advertisers leave, because people block ads, and they don't want to appear alongside Nazi sympathisers, the revenue drops even more. I think at last count it was down 80%.
One day people will undertsand that there is a necessary value exchange.

I continue to be amazed at what Google gives me for "free" and suspect that if it was not an ad model they would be charging circa $10 a month.

What monthly subscription would you Adblockers pay for an ad free version of something like Twitter?
You can look up quite easily what a click through on google costs a company.

I read sometihng about Next paying 0.3p per click or something and so when they bought made.com just the traffic that website generated was worth more to next than what they paid for it.

Probably $0 for Twitter. The world would carry on without it.

I probably would pay for Google, as I use them quite extensively (Sheets, Docs, Photos, Maps, GMail), but they seem to be surviving quite nicely without my $s.

"It happened to me too" replies from (among others) Stephen King, Margaret Atwood, Jodi Picoult, Neil Gaiman, Joanne Harris.
I agree this is exacty what Twitter is about - me having no idea what is going on and regretting once again clicking a Twitter link.

Not looking for an argument but as an alternative perspective if it was not for you guys on here then Twitter and I would have no interaction
An aspiring author posted that she'd had a bad experience at a book signing, and got encouraging replies back from some people that she would not have expected to have interacted with. It's just low key nice.

Low key nice, not really "wow, fuckme, wow" standards though.

What would be nice is if they bought every copy of her book available so she can afford to carry on writing. Or fund some public libraries out of their millions.

    You know, tangible stuff.

When I usdd to dj i used to get mid week pub gigs where you knew you'd get 2 people and a small dog turning up.

you took it on the chin and laughed with the bar man and drank a beer. I didn't expect Pete Tong to give me a hug.

I've got a feeling that Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood bringing her to people's attention might help a bit with sales as a side benefit. Maybe Henry Winkler is a little bit less relevant but will still help.

Twitter is pretty unusable though if you are not logged in. I was interested to see what Atwood had written, but not interested enough to sign up for a twitter account.

No, he was after the child pest DJ phase.

Suspect his snuff box & pill packet may have raised a few eyebrows back in the day but, no one looked...
