Feel a bit sorry for Hamish McKenzie though, having sat in the hot seat for virtually the whole race.

Yeah, especially with it being on home soil. Don't think he came into it as a medal favourite though, so seeing rider after rider produce slower splits (until Tarling) will have made it a positive experience overall.

Nice early 18th birthday present (turns 18 on Saturday) for Zoe.

The real birthday present would be a fifth jersey on that day's RR ;)

Either way she now has four jerseys at the same time. Comms on Eurosport said no-one had done that before, though PFP has done it already. Don't know if it's unprecedented at junior level.

Just wondering why folks are avoiding giving spoilers in the spoiler thread

I thought it might be a bit early in the morning for some of you!

That's a bit of a weird way of looking at it though, given that the RR jersey is last years, and on its last legs.

Of course, she's got a couple of national jerseys in the bag as well, so even if she has mercy on the peloton in the RR she's not going to be wearing standard team kit any time soon

She's going WTW with EF (effective from 1st August this year) so presumably she will? I guess it's possible she'll never get to wear the TT rainbow jersey?

PFP had Road, CX, and MTB (XCO) at the same time, for 3 stripey jerseys, but didn't get TT worlds, and I don't think she ever did track.
At present she's got short track and marathon worlds to go with the regular XCO MTB.

PFP also had the XC Team Relay Gold in 2015 to go with the other 3. And can win another WC next month at the Gravel Worlds in Tuscany....

Do they use junior gearing for TT's as well?

Unfortunately, one of the Belgian lads didn't get the memo and had to change their bike 10 minutes before their start time.

The Dutch mechanics don't seem to have much experience of SRAM do they?

Bizarre accident. Almost like her hands slipped on the bars or something.

First reports are front tyre explosion - it certainly squirmed

Van Vleuten has commentd it was front tyre explosion, worried about right elbow

Front tyre was completely off the rim after the crash

She's now said it wasnt that- she actually corrected it pretty quickly. I dont know if she just didnt miss the saddle when sitting down after the starting effort. Maybe something else caused her to do that.

I think the chain was unshipped.

Cycletips reporting that chain slipped from big ring and jammed. Photos seem to support this.
Tyre was after crash, they say.
  • AVV has a broken elbow, apparently - though in typical AVV style a decision about participating in the road race will be taken later.

Van dijk's bike handling was amazing. The Netherlands team result was amazing given they only had 2 riders on each lap.

It was good to see Kung winning at last.
  • They're always quick with the correction when a rider says a sponsor's part exploded.

Thanks for the updates (I'm not on twitter)
  • As usual Road Worlds rest day means host announcements for the various UCI championships, which on this occasion include Montréal for the 2026 Road Worlds and Haute-Savoie for the 2027 Everything-But-Cyclo-Cross Worlds.

The latter will be Glasgow 2023 + gravel, enduro, pump track, junior track, cycling esport and polo-bike.

Although she's said she can't stand on the pedals yet, which is obviously not good for the course and her riding style. Will try again tomorrow then decide.

I'd have the TT route around Lake Annecy, that would be stunning for TV.
MTB stuff will presumably be in Morzine / Les Gets.

I'd like to think they'd go somewhere else than Les Gets for the MTB....It's only just hosted the Worlds.
