THE WOLLONGONG WORLDS... SPOILERS
Hello from a plane above Woolongong.
First, if you were unaware of my Garlicky origin, I have been selected for the French Elite Men's Road Race squad. #proud
I had a lovely flight.
That's the stunning Royal National Park and the road race run in from Helensburgh, over the Sea Cliff Bridge to the mighty Gong.
Woolongong is Middlesburgh. The town has lots of industry, but just outside is absolutely stunning coastline and mountains.
However 1 house on the race route costs the same at Middlesbrough.
This is me crossing the Sea Cliff Bridge last year, 5400km in & on my final day of the Indian Pacific Wheel Race.
Anyway... I'll do a preview of the road race course etc, cannae be airsed doing the TT.
Loads of pics to follow, but tomorrow I go for a ski.
Oh yeah.... Erm TT course is Wout not Gonna or Evenepoel.

Oh food...
Bunnings Sausage Sizzle is the most ate cuisine.
It's their B&Q and every day a different charity or sports club have a sizzle to raise funds. $2 a sanga.
Geology
Australia is an enormous flat clay pancake with crumbly bits at the edges.
Any mountains are on the coast.
Everything is clay or radioactive or desired by the Chinese.
Australia has only had 7 dinosaurs discovered on its land , even more rare it has has 4 Paleontologists.
But Western Australia has more Geologists per head of population than anywhere else on Earth.

Wout...why are you not riding...? This is your course.1 -
Know those roads backwards. If they come from Helensburgh down the hill from that parasailing spot at Bald Hill they'll smoke a few brake pads. That's quite narrow and steep, with a couple of sharp bends at the bottom. It's a lumpy coast road from there into the 'Gong too, and hilly on the main loop for the race.alan_a said:During the first hour of road races expect to see lots and lots of aerial shots of folk jumping off this cliff

Your beach shot looks like Austinmer though? Or is it North Beach?

Coming in from Stanwell tops, they miss the car park at the jump spot by taking the Sharron right down the hill
City Beach0 -
Yep that's the one, Lawrence Hargreaves Drive or something it's called. Winds downhill for about a km at probably 10% gradient, then a fairly tight left then right at the bottom.Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0

Couple of random questions as I watch the last of the men roll off the ramp.
1: When does the timer starter? Is it really at the end of the beeps or do they go back and check when they start to move? The result is often on split seconds, it did look like Kung started ever so slightly before the last beep, especially compared to Evenepoel I thought.
2: Kit, does Bioracer still have the fastest skinsuit? Do you think Ganna is riding his trade skin suit or a Castelli one (not that I think there is much between those two)?. I would assume that Assos put a lot of development into theirs but there looked to be a little extra material on Kung's sleeves.Scott Addict 2011

How much time did Hayter lose due to his dropped chain? Finished 30 seconds off the podium.0

True. But whilst his TT has always been reasonably decent (12th in U23 world TT champs and Norwegian TT champ for the last 2 years), it's never looked like future world champion level. Definitely a bit of a surprise, as much to him as anyone else I would imagine.No_Ta_Doctor said:

Better to stay calm than get your bib shorts in a twist. He did well just to give the bike an annoyed shove against the barriers.gsk82 said:

Kung beats Ganna & Evenepoel - and still falls short. As for Foss, where the hell did that come from.......nearly as big a shock as Bert Grabsch back in 2008....All Road/ Gravel: tbcWinter: tbcMTB: tbcRoad: tbc"Look at the time...." "he's fallen like an old lady on a cruise ship..."0

He's consistently in the top 5-10 in stage race TTs over the last couple of seasons, but as you say, not obvious wc potential. I think it's probably significant that he's been fairly lightly raced this season, might be a bit fresher than mostWarning No formatter is installed for the format1 -

Hayter would have been right in the mix there without the chain drop.0

Does he qualify as a Viking?No_Ta_Doctor said:

Ellen van Dijk won the women’s ITT, ahead of Grace Brown and Marlen Reusser. Vittoria Guazzini was 4th and won the U23 (held in the same race). AvV had an absolute shocker and was 7th, over a minute and a half down.0

In regards to Hayter's chain drop, is it really quicker to swap the bike rather than just put the chain back on?0
-
You don't know how long it's going to take to put the chain back on, whereas you do know how long it'll take to swap bikes.0
-
Foss's dad won 5000 kroner, bet of 50. Sounds great until you see the exchange rate! 0.085 or something.
I was disappointed for Kung - always the bridesmaid0 -
I was expecting the mens U23 TT to be on GCN.
Anyone know whats happening?0 -
Norwegians are happening, again. Hayter currently 2nd fastest, Wærenskjold has just taken the hot seat.flite said:I was expecting the mens U23 TT to be on GCN.

For those asking if Norwegians qualify as Vikings... Yes, but they're the wrong sort, so they don't get on the thread 😉Warning No formatter is installed for the format1
