Any reason most of the big name sprinters are missing?

    Cav' has scared them off
He's just become the first British winner of the race.
Quite a hard, slightly uphill sprint.
Bouhanni left fighting his handlebars again.
A nice little win for Cav' really. Will he do better this year I wonder?

Tomorrow's offering could also be known as the second, one day of the 3 Days of De Panne, as it starts just outside Ostend, heads inland, before returning to the coast, next door to De Panne. It bares a strong resemblance to an old style Gent-Wevelgem.

The Bredene Koksijde Classic is 201 kms of mostly flat Flanders.

No Pogacar or Roglic, so a chance for lesser mortals to take a WT stage race spoils.
Starting today we have the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. A bit more sprinty looking than usual and another trip up La Molina.

    Anyhow, today's route.

    CARAPAZ Richard

    Echelons!
Jumbo must be hammering it with Dennis. Yates, Woods and Sivakov the only obvious GC guys besides in group 1.
Group 2 must have everyone else but are 30” behind.

Well, Colbrelli obviously doesn't believe in not drifting across the the entire width of the road in that sprint.

Bling from Colbrelli, with Pacher in third.
Hard drag uphill. I reckon there'll be a couple of GC men shipping some seconds.
Carapaz on the deck on another descent, too.

Colbrelli looks to have had cardiac incident after finish line, received "cardiac massage" on finish line.

The fact he seems to be conscious is at least one bit of good news. Fingers crossed that his prognosis is good.

Holy moly. If he wasn't fully recovered, that was a hell of an effort to put out up the finishing straight.

I hasten to add that I never knew he been taken ill when I posted this. I hope all will be OK.

My thought was that it didn't age well.

Hopefully Colbrelli will be OK and recover fully.
Am I right in thinking he'd missed a couple of races in the last week due to illness?

Ooh, nasty. Just watched the ES coverage on catch up and indeed closed out quickly so didn't know about Colbrelli until doing a retro on the spoilers. Best wishes to the man.

    HIRSCHI Marc

    While in Catalunya, the stage

And they go through a town called Argeles sur Mer where we used to go to on family holidays when I was a kid. I'm going back there in June.

I spent a summer working just inland from there at Palau del Vidre, working at the restaurant L'Anciene Ecole. It's still running I think. Lovely part of the world.

Le Perthus on the Spanish border used to be a duty free town and we used to go there to buy cheap Spannish gin to fuel the G&Ts we had in our water bottles in the kitchen!

There was a nice cafe in Elne too and Colliore is really pretty.

Palau had a pretty good rugby league team too, and got to the regional cup final that year. The whole village went along, and it was a real grudge match, with a couple of sendings off.

Crashes have marred the race, despite there being no real pressure.
