With styling this distinctive, why *wouldn't* BMW devotees buy a Mercedes?

TDV had some AMG thang before the M4 and I never really got on with it - steering was v light, couldn't reeeeeally feel what it was doing when you floored it. Shittodrive through filds tbh.

M4 is just sooo planted, solid. Utterly lovely. Just digs in andfucksoff at a million miles and hour

But its horses for courses - Steveo loves his Panzer and he knows what he's talking about, so personal preference time?

IIRC yours was an old A Class AMG which were fast but a bit inert. Mine is different for sure.

but as its you I'll let you off.

tbh, I can't even remember what it was. deffo not some A class. I'm not from Naples you know.....

Any thoughts on the Ferrari Daytona on Top Gear? Seems a bit shite to me. I don’t expect practicality in a car like that but it’s ugly too inside and out.

Re that Audi, a mate had just posted on Facebook he's thinking of getting an Audi R8 V10. He may even be serious as he's just sold a business and has history of buying fast cars - used to knock around in one of those Subaru things that dominated rallying and I remember he had a Clio Williams when they came out.

I think for me - even if I had the money for something like an R8 unless it was really pocket change something along the lines of a hot hatch would do me. I'm thinking is your R8 going to be more fun than your old Clio and why do you need to go 0-100kmh in just over 3 seconds? Maybe I just don't get it - I end up thinking of the problems - I bet it's expensive to service, could you leave it in Sainsbury's car park and how would I fit the dogs in it?

I'm with you and MF on having a practical performance car - there's something great about a daily drive that can go and corner like censored off a stick. Although some of the best times I've had were in my old 205GTI...
its why I love TDVs M4 - lovely to drive, roomy, huge boot, mega hi-fi. Goes like shitoffashovel.

Anaconda is the same once you get it shifting. Stick 300 bhp more through it and you'll end up in every hedge you could find though....
Take a look at the new M3 Touring - should should right up your street (if you can live with 'mutant chipmunk' front grille)

oh, we like that - grazie!

agree re weird grille but has soooo much potential.

imagine TDLW in that. Stuff of wet dreams.

oh. that is nice. v v v nice. TDLW in that munching on 'scratchings listening to Placebo.

    Seriously nice.

and deffo agree with that over c63 - just googled it and don't like it at all. BMW seem to have hit the design on the head, chipmunk grille aside/including (dependant on point of view)

Nearly bought this as a second car a couple of days ago - unfortunately hesitated and it's now sold. Just a Panda but the 1.4 100hp version so meant to be quite fun. The other half is using our car more frequently - didn't used to be a problem when we had our daughter's car here too but that's no longer the case. In the spirit of environmentalism if I do get something it'll be one vehicle in one out as the vespa will be sold.

Brakes (and clutches) will actually wear out quickly for Matt in Jersey, but the primary reason is the constant start-stop driving. The 40mph speed limit stops any furious driving in its tracks. In fact, it's the most boring place I've ever driven. Audi not needed!

Looks good, great interior, all round ability etc but a bit soft and underpowered compared to The Panzer and M3 equivalents I reckon.

    its a 2+2 which is a winner.

in all black not to chavvy either.

    M4 replacement in 18 months?

Looks aside, can't see the point of a 2+2. In driving terms I couldn't tell the difference between my wagon and the coupe version which is effectively a 2+2. Just means you need another car to do the daily stuff.

OK fair enough. Consider the V8 Panzer Coupe as an alternative (might have to go nearly new as they're out of production now I think)

    Review here:
    https://evo.co.uk/mercedes/c-class/c63-amg-coupe

    Summary:
"The Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupé is, rather predictably, a C-Class coupé stuffed with the 4-litre twin turbocharged V8 that we already know (and love) from the C63 saloon and in dry sump form, from the AMG GT.

That might be a predictable formula but it’s no less enticing for that. With unique bodywork, a wider track and vaguely ludicrous amount of power it’s an AMG hotrod in the traditional sense, only promising more control, delicacy and a greater ability to exploit that mighty motor.

But this golden age of V8 revery is coming to an end with a likely move to a hybrised four-cylinder powertrain for its soon-to-come successor. The current C63 S is not just on borrowed time, but likely to become a future icon we never saw coming. "
