Interesting one from Ferrari - they are making their electric cars sound like their petrol engined cars and they've patented it:

It's a bit like making vegan food taste like bacon (why not have the real thing), but it has to be better than sounding like a milk float."I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -

Well they've applied for a US patent. And they will have done so 18 months ago.Stevo_666 said:Interesting one from Ferrari - they are making their electric cars sound like their petrol engined cars and they've patented it:

Jaguar Land Rover has expanded its efforts to develop autonomous driving technologies for future models, opening new research centres in Bologna (Italy), Madrid (Spain) and Munich (Germany).
The three new hubs will work on advanced driver assistance systems and artificial intelligence (AI) for “self-driving cars of the future”, according to the British car maker.
Underpinning these future cars will be a suite of hardware and software from American computing giant Nvidia, with which JLR signed a deal a year ago.

Nvidia, I knew they were hot on graphics, but did realise they're working on autonomy.

This isn't news.

It's not peer reviewed, but it's fun to put some research behind it haha.
link to the actual research is in the article.0 -
Do we know whether the relationship is a causal one? Something to do with G-forces or really stiff suspension or something?0

Can someone do a study into wealth and penis size?
Just for balance. 😉The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I wouldn't mind one of these. Nice and light, big engine, big wing, carbon everywhere...

The Intensa Emozione uses a Ferrari derived 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated F140FE V12 developed by Autotecnica Motori and HWA AG. It is rated approximately 791 PS (582 kW; 780 hp) at 8,500 rpm and around 760 N⋅m (561 lb⋅ft) of torque at 6,000 rpm

Exactly, and most of them would just sit in a man cave to be admired so it would be environmentally friendly too.Stevo_666 said:

Japanese motor industry giants Toyota and Honda say they have agreed to give their workers in the country the biggest pay rises in decades.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64740171
The company said it will raise salaries by 5%, marking the biggest increase since 1990 and above Japan's rate of inflation.
A Honda spokesperson said the extra money will largely be distributed to younger employees as starting salaries are boosted.
"Despite the severe business environment, management has a strong desire to create an environment in which all employees can... push forward with their work with a sense of urgency," the spokesperson added.
Earlier this year, Japan's prime minister Fumio Kishida called on firms to raise wages to help people struggling with rising prices.
In January, the owner of fashion chain Uniqlo, Fast Retailing, said it would raise the pay of staff in its home country by up to 40%.
Ummm, inflation comes to mind.0 -
Yep. I like to think that I keep my cars out of the hands of people who would drive them too much.focuszing723 said:

The evolution of Rimac is stunning.0

They just need to drop the price a bit and I'm in. Stunning performance and handling, there is hope for EVs yet.focuszing723 said:"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
It is publicly known to have worked with many global OEMs including Porsche, Hyundai, Kia, Automobili Pininfarina, Koenigsegg, Aston Martin, while there are many additional projects which are still unknown to the public. Having delivered components for several niche volume projects in the past years, Rimac Technology is ramping up its production capacity and will be manufacturing tens of thousands high-performance systems per year by 2024 and further ramping up to volumes of hundreds of thousands with products ranging from small hybrid battery systems to full rolling chassis. (From Rimac's website)
Yep, a bit of a mobile show case for the company. I expect you probably know already, Rimac work with other manufacturers on their EVs, so it's good to see the technology through/filter down (Hyundai, Kia standout there).0 -
It is a bloody shame the cost of electric has sky rocketed now, who would have predicted that?

They will, but might be too late for some of us. I think the message is that we shouldn't be putting all our eggs in one basket on the car propulsion front.focuszing723 said:It is a bloody shame the cost of electric has sky rocketed now, who would have predicted that?

I think the long term solution that they should be pushing is self charging hybrids and I do not know why the govt. is so intent on pushing electric vehicle ownership and the legislation due to kick in in 2030 when there is an obvious shortfall in infrastructure.Stevo_666 said:

If legislation dictated that an electric or hybrid car used only electricity below 30 mph to keep urban pollution to a minimum, then you tick a large environmental box,
Also, hybrids require far less batteries as we know that the production of electric cars is far more environmentally damaging than current production of ICE vehicles.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
Hybrid legislation kicks in 2035 so there's a bit of leeway there. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
