Big crash for Van der Poel. That might his day done

He’s back up but surely out of contention

That looked nasty for mvdp, what a shame.

How many laps is this going to be?

How come pidders was so far down, bad qualification, or countries seeding?

I’m no longer familiar with MTB , but the course seems brutal!

Pidcock would have preferred some mud do we think?

Looks like he might be struggling a bit.

Hopefully he's recovering, and biding his time for an attack.

Something unedifying about top top riders compromising their road career for this, I have to say.

But they enjoy it don't they, pidcock has said this is his favourite discipline.
"born to mountainbike" is the exact quote.

Not sure about mvdp, maybe he's more cx.

They're not doing it for the person in the street, doing it for themselves, which seems fair enough to me.

Pidders dropping off the front 2.

I'm only keeping up with it because I've heard of 2 of them. Even with that, I can't watch it for more than 5 minutes at a time. It's so dull.

    17 kms to go.
I'll give it a break for a while...
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I've had it on mute when I've had it on cos everyone else is asleep. Are they saying how nice the GB&NI kit is, but it's hard to pick out in a group?

If the swiss are riding clever/tactical, should they not back him up with one rider on a narrow part of the course and let the other rider make a break?

Either not enough cameras, or the producer is not very good.

Gutted to not be able to see how mvdp would have faired for the duration.

I was actually thinking they were doing a decent job for a change, plenty of cameras around the course. Though sometimes a bit remote around the tech sections.

I know nothing about this sport but when I tried it I crashed a lot so I presume the whole not crashing thing is all about skill

From the Kiesenhofer results I've since seen, I think you are running her down quite a bit; she has won the Austrian TT title for about the last 5 years, and had other decent TT/RR results.

Let's face it, even the riders in the women's peleton didn't know who she was.

    Really?
Panned out fairly similar to the men the day before.
ah sorry I should have quoted that text

In a post race interview Bikeradar poster girl Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig told Danish TV:

To be honest the women's race was shit, it was a pretty bad representation of female cycling. Remember that the Olympics is the place that women's cycling gets to all parts of the world, a place to show how cool female cycling is. It was such a mess. It was crappy.

My wife, who hasn't ever really watched a bike race, watched all of the last 50-60km and thought it was great. Remember the Olympics attracts a much broader audience than traditional cycling fans, so while we may have found it bemusing, we shouldn't assume non-fans did.

It makes a big difference when you recognise some names I find, I'm quite enjoying it. Tried last time when Sagan was racing and punctured, and it didn't engage me at all. did

There have been some long lingering shots of foliage or empty track. Maybe a blip.
