Great to hear about Pidcock.0

Was it? There was a line about nobody wanting to finish fourth that was exactly the same, at the same point (when the battle for fourth disappeared into the trees). Maybe it's just the cliches are that ingrained?pblakeney said:

Don't know who it was though.
Edit - been back and watched both again right at the end. Definitely the same commentary.0 -

I was just dipping in and out but they definitely knew he was with Ineos when I was on. Even said that they wouldn't be happy with his idea of doing downhill.Lanterne_Rogue said:

It is a fair point though, nobody wants to finish 4th.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.1 -

That's really impressive handling from Pidcock.0

He won't be competitive in downhill anyway, at least not without making absolutely huge sacrifices in the other disciplines (i.e., the ones he's paid for).pblakeney said:

Not gonna lie, Asian games watched from the UK are a f*cking pain.
You get this weird hybrid of catching half of it live and missing the other half and getting updates on the bits you might have missed but might not have and you're not sure if you're watching a repeat or live - it is a total pain.
Plus, what happened to every sport being available? BBC being cheapskates? Public services under the sh!tter again? FFS it's supposed to be a distraction of this hellhole, not a reminder.

Also looking at the surfing, looking very mushi mushi out there.

For the MvdP crash, apparently there was a ramp on the drop during training which was taken away for the race, and MvdP didn't know

Blame the IOC - the entire European rights were sold to Discovery, and due to the legal situation in the UK sub-licensed to the BBC - who are only allowed to show two live sports at any one time (and one of those has to be on the red button channel - just one on the prime TV channel).rick_chasey said:Not gonna lie, Asian games watched from the UK are a f*cking pain.

On a more fun note - how bitchy is the diving co-commentator? He's hilarious, and absolutely savage (often way too savage).0

Leon Taylor, Olympic medalist himself and has also been in Hollyoaks0

A lot of 'scorecard' / judgement type sports / competitions (Ice skating, Synchronised swimming, Diving, Ballroom dancing etc..) appear to be seething masses of full make-up, white teeth, air kisses and massive backstabbing....rick_chasey said:On a more fun note - how bitchy is the diving co-commentator? I have total respect for these divers. It is brutal and it's a gritty sport for any competition that isn't the Olympics.0 -

Here's an explanation. IOC sold all the European rights to Discovery, with a requirement that a free to air channel would be able to show some live coverage. The BBC is allowed two live feeds at a time. (Also the BBC can't afford to compete.)rick_chasey said:Not gonna lie, Asian games watched from the UK are a f*cking pain.

Real Sven Kramer disaster vibes from the Dutch camp.
(for those who do not know, at the height of Sven Kramer's powers, olympic final in his favourite discipline, on world record pace, the race is already won, takes the wrong lane on the lap and DQs himself).0 -

I’m looking forward ignoring the inevitable Cyclingnews piece by Philippa York along the lines of how Carapaz and Pidcock winning gold were desperate attempts to salvage Ineos’s shocking season - and it doesn’t count anyway/they should have won by more, etc. - and somehow linking that to their riders only winning outside of the toxic trade team environment, and that they’ll be fighting for scraps at the Vuelta along with the other awful failures of this year, etc…4
