Tom Daley gets a Gold at last. Seems odd that someone who’s such a professional Olympian hasn’t won gold before. Good for him :)

Has anyone ever won Olympic MTB gold and the vuelta in the same year? Apart from Merckx obviously

Assuming Flueckiger will save it all for the final lap.

Just seen Mvdp's crash. Remarkable that he kept going for as long as he did. That looked painful.

From the Kiesenhofer results I've since seen, I think you are running her down quite a bit; she has won the Austrian TT title for about the last 5 years, and had other decent TT/RR results.

Let's face it, even the riders in the women's peleton didn't know who she was.

    Really?
Panned out fairly similar to the men the day before.
ah sorry I should have quoted that text

In a post race interview Bikeradar poster girl Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig told Danish TV:

To be honest the women's race was shit, it was a pretty bad representation of female cycling. Remember that the Olympics is the place that women's cycling gets to all parts of the world, a place to show how cool female cycling is. It was such a mess. It was crappy.
...and the men's was as bad.
Which was my point. Both were tactically bad, apart from the winners obviously.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    I thought he retired?
    Maybe I imagined that.

Fair play, BBC erratic coverage is a PITA.

Woke up. Stuck the mtb on, saw Pidcock at the front, wondered where MvdP was, saw the drop and thought it looked brutal, saw the crash and had it confirmed.

It's going to be tough for Flueckiger to bring Pidcock back on this, saw he was riding where others were running. And no, I don't think he'd want mud - that favours the bigger more powerful riders

What those photos crop out is Pidcock was right behind him and did well to miss him

Only just turned on. Having only really seen the 2012 race I was never much of a fan of man-made course but this is much nicer (I suppose Essex was always a weird place to do MTB). I still prefer natural courses though.

Entertaining race. I thought the coverage was a lot better than some of the world cups I've tried to watch - actually felt like I could tell what was going on.

Missed VDPs crash. Hopefully GCN will do a decent highlights package.

The GCN ones didn't either - they were talking about new opportunities and bidding and stuff... he's already got probably one of the most lucrative gigs in cycling...
  • I've not got a lot of context to place it against but hell of a ride by Pidcock! Once it settled down he looked so easy on the bike

Who was commentating for Eurosport? Think BBC were just taking the world feed so it was Rochelle Gilmore and some fella

There was a bit where Flueckiker span on the climb and had to run while he was chasing Pidcock (got really close, like 4 seconds) - Pidcock didn't make any errors like that.

In the surfing the waves are a bit bigger, but a stiff offshore breeze is making them very messy. I'm honestly surprised they're running it these conditions.

First knockout rounds are underway, a couple of upsets in the women's and one of the pre comp favourites (John John Florence) out in the men's. Still looking like Brazilian medals in the men's

Same feed! Went across to the BBC to see if they had an interview with Pidcock, rewound a little and thought "well this is familiar..."

Same feed but different commentary. ES were well aware of his Ineos position.
Don't know who it was though.

That was fucking embarrassing. She is supposed earning a living in the media and does not realise where Trinity Racing comes from. You also don’t get a fat juicy Ineos contract without a decent agent.
