One thing about Pidcock's ride that doesn't get mentioned is the way that he was clearly managing the technical sections to reduce risk. Seemed like every time Fluckiger closed the gap slightly Pidcock just pushed out another five seconds before settling back down - he never really tried to build a bigger lead, just used his advantage to reduce risk.1

Blame the IOC - the entire European rights were sold to Discovery, and due to the legal situation in the UK sub-licensed to the BBC - who are only allowed to show two live sports at any one time (and one of those has to be on the red button channel - just one on the prime TV channel).rick_chasey said:Not gonna lie, Asian games watched from the UK are a f*cking pain.
You get this weird hybrid of catching half of it live and missing the other half and getting updates on the bits you might have missed but might not have and you're not sure if you're watching a repeat or live - it is a total pain.
Plus, what happened to every sport being available? BBC being cheapskates? Public services under the sh!tter again? FFS it's supposed to be a distraction of this hellhole, not a reminder.

Hoping that MVDP isn't that badly injured and is fit in time....
26/9 - UCI Worlds in Flanders - WVA, Pidcock, MVDP, Asgreen etc... Quickstep's Belgians working for WVA (or not....)
3/10 - Paris-Roubaix - As above for their trade teams.
nom nom nom.....3 -
With Pidcock likely going to the Vuelta, the MTB World Champs in Val di Sole look open; I don't think it will happen, but MvdP should target them, on a course he's won at before; a MTB rainbow jersey would be some sort of consolation. All Road/ Gravel: tbcWinter: tbcMTB: tbcRoad: tbc"Look at the time...." The main issue with watching the Olympics in Denmark is that it's just wall to wall badminton coverage.Warning No formatter is installed for the format2

Although it doesn't seem very likely they would have a ramp like that for the race as it was straightforward enough drop and almost certainly faster taken that way.davidof said:

Assume everyone else knew the ramp wasn't there for the race though or others would have made the same mistake. So why wasn't he aware?davidof said:

Oops. Seems like MvdP should maybe have listened more carefully

The BBC hasn't had the budget for live sport for 20-30 years. It's only the protected events they have had a hope of getting.0 -

Pidcock, asked how long the Olympics have been his dream: "Not that long, since late last year that was the first time I did a World Cup. So it hasn't been a dream for that long, I can't imagine how it would feel to build up for four years to this event. A year was enough!"

Yeah, basically "I can't imagine how it would feel to work for years to get to this point and then get beat by someone who just thought he'd give it a go for a few months."
But I'm sure he didn't mean it like that.2 -

It was just there for practice to allow the riders to move round the course more easily - no use risking crashes by taking the drop off at speed every time through (which you'd need to do to avoid landing to flat) when you are trying to practice other sections of the track.dabber said:

Yes, I understand that. It would be very strange for it to be part of the race though.bobmcstuff said:

He comes across as a bit stand-off-ish, but I am sure that and this comment are not intentional and that he's a nice lad. Benefit of the doubt, I don't know him etcBen

There's a bit of video of Evie Richards practicing on that jump with the ramp in place but she is taking off from the top and totally clearing the ramp like it isn't there...so I would hope it won't be there for the race.r0bh said:
