The bike course on the triathlon looks crazy narrow and twisty.

Do they have domestiques in triathlon? Would a rider in the bike leg ride on behalf of another?

Same rules as a TT regarding drafting IIRC.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

That's the Ironman. They ride in a group in the Olympic distance. The Olympic triathlon is basically 10000m running for white people.

You'd think it would make sense but the commentators were just saying every man for himself.

I keep hearing the Canadian athlete's name as His Lordship!

Considering all the top people are in the huge front group I'm surprised anyone is prepared to ride on the front. Presumably it's the weaker runners trying to take the legs out of the best runners

Is there a blackboard to tell them the time gap? Or do they have to rely on smoke signals and carrier pigeons?

If Australia had picked Porte and Wurf and a runner they could have a five minute lead by now

Alex Yee for GB. Never heard of him and he’s the fastest runner on paper now leading the run

Would it hurt them to put a cobbled climb in the middle of run?

Seems a bit odd seeing the muscular Norwegian staying with guys built much more like distance runners

Yee probably needs to pick this up if he can, I doubt he'll want a sprint against the bloke who is built like Ben Johnson.

Blumfeldt rips the finish line tape, knocks over the scaff tower and eats a velociraptor…

Not sure if it is just the pale suit but he certainly doesn't look like a 10,000m runner. Looks more like a decathlete and they all struggle with the 1500m.

The Blummenfelt one piece with the blue crotch/ass design is the worst outfit I have ever seen.

The rules are weird. Outside of being terrible at running, why would anyone ride at the front or do any work on the bike leg?

It is hard to find an analogue for men's racing. Maybe the French entering Peter Pouly for some mad reason and him getting 18 minutes on the bunch and winning. It would never happen in such a race... yes in the Tour occasionally the sprint teams misjudge a break and some relative unknown takes the stage.

I mean, it is completely ridiculous, unthinkable, a woman who has one noticeable prior result (1st on the Ventoux stage of the Ardeche) AFAIKS sneaking off with Olympic gold. There should really be an investigation to see what happened, was it the organization, the Dutch or just the women's pro peleton in general. It reflects really badly on women's road racing tbh.

Couple of stages ... Thierry Marie solo escape stage 1 1991 (I think). Cedric vasseur solo win into yellow first week of the tour . Ffloyd Landis ?

I think GB tried that in 2016 (took a good swimmer as the third athlete to make sure they'd be in the front group on the bike) and the third best overall athlete took them to court. I may have imagined that though.

I do think the organisers have it tough having not had any decent test events.

Where is Pidcock starting on the grid? I assume it's only a small field so he isn't already beaten by starting miles back?

Pidcock 4th, mvdp 7th part way through the first proper lap.
