TDF 2021:- Stage 1, Brest › Landerneau 197.8km **Spoilers**

I'm not convinced Porte and TGH were ever going to be more than mountain domestiques to be honest. Carapaz is still within reach, it's 30 odd seconds with 20 stages left so certainly not enough that anyone can ignore him if he attacks in the mountains. If the wind blows in on the coast tomorrow things could change massively again.phreak said:
No contenders per se, but it puts a pretty big dent in Ineos' strategy as that required all 4 to be dangerous enough on GC to need chasing down.Pross said:

Roglic will almost certainly have some team problems, given that Sep Kuss finished with Tony Martin and Mike Teunissen, 16 and a half minutes back.
Meanwhile, apparently Kruijswijk got to the finish on this.
2 riders still unaccounted for: 181 finishers, 1 DNF, 184 starters...."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -
UCI will probably kick him out on the basis that it doesn't comply with technical regulationsblazing_saddles said:Roglic will almost certainly have some team problems, given that Sep Kuss finished with Tony Martin and Mike Teunissen, 16 and a half minutes back.

Well his bike is probably under weight now......0

I doubt that would have happened with a rim brake bike, with the piece across near the top of the wheel?

Was Konovalovas the one in a champs jersey that I initially thought was Alaphilippe? If so it was a pretty spectacular dismount so not surprised.RichN95. said:Cyril Lemoine (who caused the second crash) and Igor Konovalovas of FdJ were DNF along with Sutterlin
Edit - just checked and it was (Lithuanian champ)0 -

Yes, Valverde wouldn't have been able to read the sign with her holding it that way.bobmcstuff said:

Reports starting to come in on injuries. Teunissen just battered - no fractures.
Hirschi possible collarbone (edit - have seen later claim that collarbone is fine but he suffered a dislocated shoulder).

Soler definitely out (broken hand); no word yet on Amund Grøndahl Jansen but he's gone for x-rays.0

Apparently filing a complaint is just a formal process, registering it with the police essentially.0 -
I got stuck on the Granny bit for too long, damn!mrb123 said:

News that France's least popular granny greeter has gone missing is surely unrelated to Movistar's yacht being seen departing Brest at a rate of knots with a suspiciously bulky package aboard...

It's the internet. Someone will know her. Look at me and my 5 secs of fame. Getting hit by 70+ kilos of Tony Martin and bike at 50kph is going to cause her some injuries

If it was the UK or US she'd be on some tabloid news show and then try suing Tony Martin and ASO for her own injuries and the embarrassment of them showing it on TV0
-
The onboard highlights are quite something - Tim Merlier's bike doing a full somersault then capturing footage of him on the ground afterwards is a particular moment

Hirschi update - "separated shoulder" - decision tomorrow whether to continue.

Indeed. But I can't help feeling a bit sorry for her. I'm obviously sorry for the riders too but it's the sort of thing that could torment her for the rest of her life.bobmcstuff said:It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.0 -

There are 2 French mums who deserve the Croix de Guerre there.
The one mum grabbed her lad and dived into the ditch.

Well, she should feel bad about it to be fair.salsiccia1 said:

She doesn't seem to bothered here (not my circle). Probably happy that Opi and Omi will definitely see the sign now

This. Her fault, and her fault alone.bobmcstuff said:
