It's the most ridden climb in the world on Strava!bobmcstuff said:
Sounds like Box Hill which if you listen to London based riders seems to be essentially Alpe d'Huez but in Surrey.kingstongraham said:

TBF, it is a nice road to cycle up, just needs to be a bit longer.0 -
Way way harder than Alpe d'Huez, so I've been told!bobmcstuff said:

What's fun about Box is that for the amateur, it has all the components for a great race.elbowloh said:

It's steep enough it feels like a proper hill and the bad climbers will get dropped but it's not so steep that you're going so slowly that drafting doesn't matter.

It USED to be a nice road to cycle up. Now it is clogged with choppers.elbowloh said:

Seriously though, if you are an existing clubbie or have moved over from another country and say are a national/regional champion do you still have to audition for the Dynamo massive?ibr17xvii said:First.Aspect said:
Yes indeed.
No existing clubbies, anyone with Hunt wheels or Ultegra groupsets welcome..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

I'm guessing there's a fast-track process if you're eastern European, what with your gritty riding ideals and all that.0 -
the gritty-est i believe.
Do you think they are sit there and look at each other with admiration having all passed the arduous invite only riding test?
Band of Brothers style? Like having passed Selection, but only on a bicycle in a park in London?.The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

Nah I reckon it's more of a whipping each other with wet towels in a sauna kind of vibe.0

Given the weight of your pomposity i'd imagine every incline would be extremely hard for you!MattFalle said:

Does Alpe d'Huez have a National Trust cafe at the top? I'll answer you - no it doesn't.bobmcstuff said:

Do they have a checklist to gauge you against or are they such ardent talent spotters they can spot la grinta at a hundred yards/4 jumped red traffic lights?
is there like a committee meeting where they discuss each potential new member?0 -

Everyone has to audition I would guess.
Literally everyone.0 -
I heard the turned down Bradley Wiggins, because he wouldn't comply with the dress code.0

or audition for them..

The 'Dynamo bashing' is getting very boring now. Predictable, tragic and rather pathetic. But that's only my opinion, obviously.2

Well no need to come on this this thread then.....

Like I said - just expressing my opinion. If that makes you uneasy, I may do it some more...MattFalle said:Well no need to come on this this thread then....

Oh no fella, crack on. Doesn't bother me. Fill your boots.
Its just a bit weird that if you find the subject matter boring then why come back? I don't particularly like going to the dentist so don't make monthly appointments.
Lots of other threads for you to put your opinion on.
Just a bit weird, tbh. But crack on..The camera down the willy isn't anything like as bad as it sounds.

The Dynamo bashing is your own particular bizarre obsession - but it's not the 'subject matter'.MattFalle said:Its just a bit weird that if you find the subject matter boring then why come back?
But yeah, let's have the topic turned into yet another matthewfalle wankfest.

You don't like being called out, do you. It upsets your delicate ego, I imagine. Thanks for the opportunity.MattFalle said:nah - not this log in i.d.

I don't know the cycling club, but the shop is a proper community cycling shop/hub. I think it's run as a collective.MattFalle said:tbh, dynamo or this lot?

I did a bit of drafting today. I was on my way to meet the guys from the Jolly Farmers cycling team when I caught a guy up, I went past with a “Morning” only to be caught and repast about 500 metres further on. I gave him about 50 metres then closed the gap. At first I don’t think he realised I was there, so I released a loud snot rocket to warn him. At this his cadence increased followed by dropping in to a larger gear, this continued to a downhill junction at which he acknowledged was clear but then he shot up the following incline like a man who had robbed somewhere. Again I closed the gap and sat there till I arrived at my meeting point where I turned off wishing him a nice ride.
I must do this more often.0 -
I don’t think drafting was involved but a younger, much less heavy man flew past me on one of the 10-12% hills in the area this morning. I suspect he used me as a target because I wouldn’t have been fast enough for him to bother staying behind. A cheery “morning” as he flew past was very nice and off he went around the corner. He was obviously trying super hard though because as I rounded the bend he wasn’t all that far in front so I suspect he’d mourned some matches in passing me. He obviously recovers better than me too because he lost me easily within a few hundred yards of the top.0

Proves that you should always ease off a bit before making the catch so that you can really kick on once in front.0
