No Bouhani either. Though he should of course have been banned by now.

After last year's high point, Demare is having a nightmare start to his season.

Anyhow, it seems that the peloton has been shattered in crosswinds and there are 4 or 5 groups on the road.

DQS with 5 in the lead group of 28?? and looking unlikely it will be caught. 2'20" with just over 50k remaining. Looks like another race where the action took place prior to live coverage commencing.

I can't see Bouhanni getting an official sanction now. Or at least not one as severe as it might have been without recent events.
Unable to ride today as he his traumatised by recent racist taunts.
The UCI have offered statement of support:-

Hail at the Scheldeprijs into the last 10km. Looks very unpleasant to be on the front of the bunch.

Jasper Phillipsen wins from Bennett and Cav.

DQS balls up a perfect situation. Cav takes third just behind Bennett but Philipsen takes the win.

Alpecin have had a good spring so far, especially as a division 2 team.

From the overhead Bennett had to lift off a fraction to get out from behind his leadout, Cavendish (who was seemingly working as a reargunner to prevent anyone taking Bennett's wheel) also seemingly lifted off a little to clear Bennett's sprint or just didn't have the same kick. Bit untidy from DQS but I think Philipsen would have taken that anyway - DQS tried to hold back too long.

Wonder if that was Cav's swansong and they were trying to set him up for the win, with the proviso that if he wasn't going to get there Bennet had to try and take it instead?

It did look like they were setting Cav up - otherwise they surely would have burned him out earlier. I don't think it was ever likely to work.

Bennett and Cav got in each other’s way I thought, resulting in both losing momentum at the crucial moment.

I think DQS left it too late trying to be clever and got boxed in a little. Philipsen is no slouch, wasn't going to miss the opportunity and took it well.

Even though it was only a small group, Cavendish seemed to be losing Bennett's wheel a lot there. Hopefully he'll take some confidence from the result.

"Tactically" losing the wheel was the point though....

    (he says hopefully)

Not if you give it to someone else. He was losing to the side, not allowing a gap to open.

Opening stage of the Tour of Turkey cancelled due to snow storm.

The race sees the welcome return of Fabio Jakobsen to the peloton.

That was the only race in town tomorrow with the demise of Paris-Roubaix.

    Was a nice course too.

Indeed. Turns out that 11th April is a rubbish day for races being canned.

Turns out the Tour of Turkey stage 1 is not cancelled, just shortened to about 72kms.
    It's something at least.

That’s better than nothing. Looks like it’s on GCN and the Eurosport player for 1230 now. Highlights on Eurosport on Sky at 1630.

How do the cyclists in Turkey know which of the seven identical lines at the finish is the finish line?

Or Brian Smith and Carlton Kirby for that matter.

How did commentator that we won’t name miss unclipping at the last corner?

However Polish national champion Stanisław Aniołkowski (Bingoal Pauwels Sauces) hit a hole in the road and almost lost control, taking his foot out of the pedals to steady his balance. That forced the Deceuninck-QuickStep lead-out wide and meant they lost speed and position.

They didn't actually miss it, just called it as Alvaro Hodeg, whom to anybody who was watching, was clearly behind the unclipping.

At one point I thought the commentator we won't name must have been reading the newspaper. I was doing other stuff with the race on in the background, but spotted Sean de Bie's name as being in the break, as I was passing the tv.
Our commentator at the same time began a 5 minute speculation as to who the Bingoal rider in the break was....

Shonky finish . Cav developing a bit of top 5 consistency. The road surface looked awful
