Bora's or Hunt's? Are we really comparing the 2? :)

That part of the post I ignored, much like hunts when it comes to choosing wheels.

Nah. Much like hunt wheels and their price.

Why are you so defensive over them?

Maybe folk are just sick of you chiming in with the same old same old at the merest mention of them.

We get you don't rate them, move on.

Who's "we"? You don't rate them, that's different.

It doesn't reinforce a fact, it reinforces (incessantly) your opinion.

If "we" could kindly point me in the direction where I said I love them & when you can't I'll accept your apology & move on. As should you.

Maybe 9.8% - I think you're conflating your opinion = every right minded individual. Maybe it's your illeism.

Probably 98% of people here on BR have never owned a pair of Hunt wheels, those that haven't seem to evaluate the info as indicating them as decent value wheels. Those on BR that have personal 1st hand experience seem to be fine with them. Maybe your set broke when you were trying to outsprint a clubbie for a '30' sign ? They do offer a crash replacement discount.

    no they don't

they are overpriced, far over priced for what they are.

    average parts, top dollar price.

buy some from Malcolm or Wiggle or Merlin or Farsport - same components far better price.

You’re consistent at missing the point I’ll give you that.

Seeing as you’ve obviously been through my posts & can’t find where I said I love Hunt wheels or even where I said I had a pair I’ll leave it at that.

The aluminium Hunt wheels are comparable in price to Wiggle/Merlin wheels for similar specs. I don't know about the carbon Hunt wheels. They are not all overpriced.

Hunt do offer a crash replacement discount. Have availed myself of it.

98% of the posts on this thread are anti-Hunt, but that's just because you have too much time on your hands MF.

So wheels that cost about the same as better priced alternatives you suggest are overpriced? In what world does about the same price = costs too much?

  • I bought a set of Hunt Aero Light Disc in summer 2018 after looking what I could get for £400.

All good until near the end of summer 2019, when out of nowhere I lost drive engagement when half way to Butser Hill, by luck I got engagement again and crawled home in lowest gear.

Started using the rear wheel again in summer 2020, all good until drive engagement went again, this time half way to Denbigh to tackle the long "Road To Hell" climb. Crawled back to folk's home, sometimes losing engagement.

Hoping a new £30 freehub will get things working again, first wheels I've ever had drive engagement issues with.

Tell Hunt. They will send a replacement.

You could also try servicing the hub. Sounds like the pawls are sticking. Could be trivial to sort simply by cleaning and regressing.

FWIW I've had this on a number of Shimano hubs that I have either greatly abused or used below about -5C.
  • So I ended up ordering a set of DT Swiss PR 1600's. When I picked up my new bike from the shop the bike the man suggested the DT Swiss over Hunt too. I'll let you know how I get on when the arrive. :)

Maybe after crawling home in the lowest gear (not sure it would've mattered what gear you were in BTW.) you/shop should have had a look at the hub rather than ignoring the issue and hoping it would magically fix itself, as it didn't. As mentioned sounds like sticking pawls and not a major issue, hard to blame Hunt for this.

Sorry but I'd expect a freehub to last rather longer than a year so blaming Hunt is entirely reasonable. I know they didn't manufacture the freehub in house but they brand the hubs as their own so take on liability. He could blame Wiggle if he bought through them I suppose.
Yes, he should have done something about it when it failed the first time, but who do you think is to blame at that point? These things do happen as FA says, but he also says on wheels that had been abused or in extreme cold. Had these wheels been abused they should have been serviced, but pawls don't just go after a year or so.
