Lezyne, which includes a chain breaker just in case.rick_chasey said:Speaking of complete tools, what’s the go to cyclist multi-hex tool to carry with you on a ride?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Will check it out. Have problems with the ones I’ve had bought for me because they have a plastic body and they warp and bend after one use.0

Mark Francois.

I've heard of people taking these apart so that they can dispense with the body and the individual bits are easier to use. They then put one of the other bits through the ring when they want to apply torque.rick_chasey said:Will check it out. Never been tempted to do it, but I can see the pros and cons

The Topeak ones (with metal bodies) and especially the mini ratchet sets.rick_chasey said:Will check it out. Have problems with the ones I’ve had bought for me because they have a plastic body and they warp and bend after one use.
Having seen you try to mend a puncture, I'd avoid a chain tool!
(Although, seriously, get one with a chain tool)We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

I prefer to have actual allen keys so you can apply a bit of torque if required. Therefore I would go for a set that included this.rick_chasey said:Will check it out. Have problems with the ones I’ve had bought for me because they have a plastic body and they warp and bend after one use.

O
A mechanic (who knew me) declined to sell me one on the grounds I would not be able to use it and would do better putting £20 in my pocket for a taxirick_chasey said:

You need to distribute them around.rick_chasey said:

Noting that I'm not a lycra riding weight conscious rider and that there are many better qualified people on this forum, but a 5mm allen key will do your seat post, brakes and possibly headset. A spoke key will solve spoke issues and tyre lever will remove your tyre. What else do you need? Chain tool, brake cable?
I'm fairly mean to bikes, so have broken most things that mean a long walk or taxi home e.g. the frame, the crank arms, wheels.0 -
They are still good.pblakeney said:
I'll hazard a guess that Snap-On were once high quality but have succumbed to "efficiency" in order to compete.darkhairedlord said:
Agreed, better than my bluepoint, par-x and snap on. Although the best tool I have is a snapon ratchet screwdriver, in pink so it doesn't get lost and no one will steel it on site. I've had it for 37 years.oxoman said:Best DIY spanners going are halfrauds professional range. Better than many so called pro tools
I love my Blue Point tools. Made by Snap on, come with a warranty.
I tinker on cars all the time so there's no substitute for quality tools.
For a mid range price tool, I thoroughly recommend Teng tools.
for a high end tool, i recommend Jonathan Ross.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
+1 for Lewis Hamilton and Jonathon Woss.

There's quite a presence about Mac tools. I see their vans about quite a lot. I think Mac tools are simply marketing their products better than Snap on. I know quite a few mechanics that buy Mac tools.
I did look at some Mac tools roller tool chests and they were superb. Couldn't justify the expense. Soft close, smooth as silk, strong. Guaranteed for years.seanoconn - gruagach craic!0 -
