On balance, I think that is the single season a rider has had that I have enjoyed the most since Boonen 2012.0

Valverde to retire at end of season0
-
He clearly splits opinion, but the way he came back from that awful injury (from 2017 Tour stage 1 TT crash) to get back to form in his late 30s was impressive (usual caveats about assuming he did it all legit apply).dish_dash said:
Understandable... he's had a good innings.neonriver said:Valverde to retire at end of season

I think with Valverde his level of doping was whatever the mode average was for winners at the given moment.1

To come back from that and get top 10s in races as different as MSR, Lombardi, the Vuelta, and Flanders shows the range of his talent (and obviously winning the world title too).yorkshireraw said:

It seems churlish to say what could have been for a guy who won 4 monuments, a grand tour, and a Worlds, but he scored 8 podiums in GTs and 7 in classics, not to mention 6 in the Worlds.1 -
I won't deny, despite his dodgy past, that I am a bit of a fan - his racecraft, all round ability and general bandit-ness, always made him worth watching.phreak said:

I'd say he was the best all-round rider across 1 dayers and stage races since he came back in 2012.
He also just loves riding his bike.0 -
It’s about time we had some new anecdotes to replace Sean Yates’s...RichN95. said:Ian Stannard has joined Trinity Racing as a DS
“Ian made us do 7 hours threshold along the coast roads of North Devon. It was only then he told us we had to our interval sessions. We’d all only eaten a Wagon Wheel and a packet of Wotsits since breakfast, no water. He said we’d get all the fluids we’d need from them. I was delirious, but then had to sit through a slow-mo analysis of the 2015 Omloop...”

Steve Cummings to Ineos as DS and development coach.3
-
That's an interesting one as he never really fitted in as a rider there by all accounts. Could seem him as a good coach / mentor for young riders.neonriver said:Steve Cummings to Ineos as DS and development coach.

Expect to see Ineos riders hanging around at the back of the bunch all day with an occasional breakaway win.1
