    Shocker.

Jumbo, Quickstep or ISUN are my punts - in that order.

EDIT: Ineos not a bad shout though, with DB's new love of panache etc

I thought INEOS as well, they could easily outbid anyone and buy him out of his current contract with loose change. Would be a decent long term successor to Kwiatkowski.
According to PCS they already have 31 riders for 2021 though.

    Trek, maybe? Cancellara manages him.

was wondering about that - you'd think they might have a few € spare after off-loading Porte.

    Crikey. That’s a shock.

    add Pidcock from 1/3/21.

Thought WT teams were restricted to 30 riders (unless that's been relaxed due to Covid etc), unless Moscon or someone else departs before then.

Is there currently a more desirable free agent than Hirshi?

Probably only Pogacar, Alaphilippe, MvdP and WVA depending on their contracts (every young GC contender of course).

Trek have denied it's them according to Ciro at Gazzetta

    32 allowed for 2021, 31 for 2022, then back to 30 for 2023

I'd sign hirschi over any of them. I re watched his long break stage from the tour over the weekend. The one that Roglic won.

I think he'll be going to AG2R. They have money to spend and Cancellara is connected with BMC these days.

I can't really see him at anywhere other than Ineos. They have the money, they'd surely want him and I reckon he's the sort of person who'd want to ride for them.

Inrng has re tweeted it, which is good enough for me. It's a shame that one team will have the best gt rider and the best 1 day rider in 2021

... And you'll still never see them riding on the front.

    agreed.

Ref team numbers I read elsewhere that if Ineos want to have 32 riders for 2021 the final one needs to be another neo-pro apparently.

If there is nothing untoward then someone with a big budget like UAE or Ineos. Surprised he couldnt stay another year. UAE got rid of Aru so 2 million euros free there and Peiper the DS can probdoa lot with a rider of Hirschi's quality. Also Ulissisi has a heart issue so someone like Hirschi gives another card to play.

I've seen that as well. I'm fairly sure it's wrong. I doubt he'll be going to Ineos though

This is such a stretch, obv you like him, but he's not even in the top 5 best one day riders.

    Who's in your top 5?

So you have Alaphilippe, WvA, WvdP - and then? Mads Pederson?

I'd have Kwiatkowski, Gilbert and GvA near the top of my list although Hirschi could soon supplant GvA and Gilbert.

The question with all the riders who had big results last season is how much did they benefit from the unusual season and will it be sustained in a more normal season. So it's a bit early to put him in the top 5 without backing those performances up.

Is Bernal set to ride this year or is he having a year off to recover?

Pogacar being the best gt rider isn't clear cut, either.

Presumably they'd still have to have him under contract even if he won't be riding?

Alaphilippe, WvA, MvdP are certainly better.

Kwiatkowski, Gilbert, GvA, Roglic, and any monuments winner all certainly have a better shot of being in the top 5 that Hirschi.

He's obviously very good and very talented, but you can't call him the best 1 day rider in the world when he's won 1 one day race, and even that that the least meaningful of the trio it belongs to.

Cycling is for romantics and that's why you have guys calling a rider with 1 win, the best at the discipline.
