There's a tweet on the live text on the beeb a long the lines of "don't know what the virus was the English players had, but they've got the runs now" 😃

The Aussies are 500-3 (against the West Indies) in 140ish overs. If we keep the scoring rate going we'll be over 900 in the same time.

Crawley successfully reviews LBW dismissal on 99. Got his hundred now.

When was the last time both openers scored a ton? Even one has been a rarity of late.

Collapse has started now though

Suppose one advantage of the Bazball approach is that you don't have to worry about the new balk any more. By the time that arrives you've either scored 500 or you're all out.

Ruddy England cricket team. Can't even do a collapse properly anymore 😉

Top 3 centuries and number 5 very close at present (hope I haven’t cursed him). Root must be gutted!

I think the bowlers are praying for the Umpires to take them off for bad light

EDIT:: They have their wish. Bad light stops play.

    506-4. in 75 overs.

    Blimey

    Root is over-rated. He's a non flat-track bully :D
  • If this carries on then surely every team will start playing Bazball.

He coud go down in history as the man who transformed and saved Test cricket
  • Highest first day total in test history. The previous highest was in test number 111, in 1910.

Highest first day total in test history. The previous highest was in test number 111, in 1910.

Which was in the full 90 overs if I heard TMS right.

15 overs not bowled today. That they aren't starting earlier is madness.

Could have been pushing 600 with a full day's play, sounds like Stokes was motoring at the end.

    The 1910 day's play was 99 overs, I believe.

Five days of 75 overs is only a bit over four 90 over days.

Cheers, Cricinfo didn't have the breakdown of the days play so was relying on what I thought I'd heard on TMS.

Stuffed either way then. At least you can play with dew, bit more of an issue when nobody can see the ball.

657 all out feels a bit disappointing!

A few of the names are quite new to me but good to see them doing well.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Pakistan do with the bat now.

They'll probably get 600, just rather more slowly.

As entertaining as the first day was (from an England perspective at least), I can't see the 20 wickets required to win a game being taken.

Whilst the England scoring rate kept the game exciting cricket does get a bit dull when either the batting or bowling conditions are one-sided.
  • There were rewriting the rules of test match cricket headlines around this morning...did no-one spot it was just a really flat wicket?

Even allowing for that the rate at which England scored was impressive

no re-writing. Everyone said it was a complete road. Doesn't mean England's performance was any less impressive though. With no express pace and no lateral movement in the air or off of the surface there's very little to trouble the batters. The majority of England's batters got themselves out playing shots.

Whoopie. We've taken 7 wickets. If there's a result in this pitch I'll eat a hat.
