Some interesting team choices from England again. Green pitch? Don't play either of your best/most experienced fast bowlers. Dry pitch? Only play a part time spinner.

Australia innings starting to look rather ominous.....

I am probably being daft but who is the 2nd (best/experienced) fast bowler we did not pick
Broad. We left two of the top 6 test wicket takers in history out in Brisbane.
    Broad is playing
I can see that. Looking pretty good with the new ball.

He wasn't playing in the match that Jim was referring to him not playing in. The current match is the one where they are only playing a part time spinner.

ah, I see what he meant now. I thought he was referring to this test and Wood plus one other.

FWIW I would have picked Wood ahead of Woakes

Can we please pick a specialist keeper for test matches :(

I'd of dropped Robinson and Woakes for Broad and Anderson. We're playing 5 bowlers who all basically do the same thing.

it does feel like we need to get each of their batsmen out twice

I think we'd still probably be getting destroyed if he'd held both catches.

Stokes pitch map was...interesting... I don't think there was a single ball that would of gone anywhere near the stumps.

It's certainly a novel approach to taking wickets. Don't aim at them.

Not sure it will catch on though.

EDIT: Just noticed that they sent Thorpe, England Assistant Coach, out to talk to the media. Not the Coach or the Captain, but the Assistant. If ever there was a sign things didn't go well.....

I think an England team visiting Australia has tried it in the past.

    Bodyline?
  • I don't understand...so how have we got in to a situation with Root as the only spinner?

The pink ball swings a lot - and it was hooping about for Anderson, so in theory we wouldn't need so much spin. Australia just never got any edges.

Much better day but probably forces the situation and takes out the chance of the Aussies batting too long.

. . . this could get very messy - 3 for no wicket by close would be fine with me . . .

Not many I hope! Can't seem to find an answer to how many overs left.

    . . . Aus added 83 runs in 10 overs before tea!

    FFS . . . Burns gone for 4

  • Richardson had it going in all sorts of directions as well. Three balls in the first over could have got Hameed.

I have little doubt that the shadow hanging over the ECB is the right premise to have any expectations of a good result in Australia.

Took 5 wickets without conceding a huge amount more runs but then couldn't mop up the tail and better is a relative term, the first two sessions were definitely better than day one.

Can see us batting all day tomorrow. Which would be good.

But it maybe because we've been asked to follow on. Which would be bad.

Starting to regret coughing up the £25 to BT for the privilege...
  • our inability to maximise our resources is starting to annoy me.

FFS compare our pool of players with NZ and see the difference in outcome
  • Australia's bowlers were magnificent in those few overs mind. Worth £25 surely .

not sure why our "Brains Trust" does not watch the TV and then do what the pundits suggest. In this case stop bowling "Hollywood Balls" that beat the outside edge by 8" and pitch it up where you may get a nick
