Sounds like this Omicron has got them fairly spooked.

    So masks are back mandatory.

Is everyone still using the normal fabric ones? Surely there's been time to get plenty out there that actually give some protection - and guidance on which ones might help more than others.

I'm still using reusable, but might get ffp2 masks for going somewhere I want to protect myself if it does go to shit again.

"Face coverings will become mandatory again on transport and in shops – but not in hospitality."

Do people think this will have much effect on behavior? It's "mandatory" on public transport around here already but only around 50% wear them.

Almost felt a bit nostalgic watching that tonight. The good old days are back. Roll on the next briefing and some properly draconian measures!

I wonder if it would help if we moved the entire UK to an island somewhere?

We've had that all along in Wales and from the numbers I'm not sure it has made much difference.

Kinda pointless (or marginal, at best) if schools are unmasked in classrooms. As the weather gets colder and people close windows and doors because they are snowflakes (actually, they'd want to stay cold if they were snowflakes), a classroom environment could hardly be better designed as a way to spread an airborne virus.
  • Gonna put it out there. Sort of a bit worried about this one.

Other ones much more blasé. Don't know of anyone whose had it badly / died.

There's a lot of noise about it, and it's got Johnson rattled, but not going to fret for a while yet, until more's known. Hoping to get to France for Christmas, so will be keeping fingers crossed for more clarity by then. Quite glad I booked tickets to get back a few days before term starts, so the PCR test is just about manageable, as long as it gets the promised turnaround. But if it looks all wobbly before I go, I'll probably not go, as the total outlay so far is only £110 on plane/train tickets.

    What do you mean?

Glad it wasn't just me. Two possibilities, I reckon...

Why did I bring up schools again?..."Don't be ridiculous, it doesn't spread in schools!"

    or

"Why have they left schools out of the measures, when it's obvious it spreads there!"

The second one. Masks in Sainsbury's is like bailing out the Costa Concordia with a sponge.

But if everybody had sponge and used it correctly that ship would have been tickety boo in no time.

"Modelled from" - I think that was based on a very few number of cases. There's a lot of guessing at the moment. Each variant seems to get the press excited that it's going to be the killer variant, until it's not. Or is.

Yes, you are right, but for once they've tried to close the stable doors while there might be a horse in there.

At least we haven't heard "Irreversible" for a while. At least the opposite of that is easy, even for a man with as small an intellect as Johnson.

That's more like it. Suggests that these new restrictions might be, er, reversible, once more is known.
