That reminds me of watching this video, and wondering about his wearing a helmet:

Yes, I realised that after a few seconds' thought, but without ropes, at speed, a different sort of fall would be more in the forefront of my mind.
Actually, I lie. I'd still be in a warm hotel bar at the bottom, wondering why anyone would do that.0 -
You are a lot more likely to fall off if a rock hits you on your bare head rather than hitting your helmet.
The climber in the film did subsequently die soloing on Nupse.0 -
It will offer some protection but hard to quantify as a non turban wearer. I think a lot of people over estimate the effectiveness of a hard hat from a brick at four storeys. As will all things it is better to reduce or remove the hazard than rely on a hard hard.imposter2.0 said:
I do find it entertaining that you think a turban offers any kind of vertical impact protection which is in any way remotely equivalent to a hard hat.john80 said:
I do find it entertaining that you would not just design a hard hat that works with a turban. Albeit a turban probably works pretty well for most thing that you can drop from height but are not forceful enough to kill a hard hat wearer.0 -
About 25+ years I had a climbing friend who (without helmet) was hit by a falling piece of rock, and it made a dip in his skull maybe 5-6 cm diameter, 2-3 cm deep. Obviously he then needed a lot of time in hospital. I don't really know why he didn't suffer a brain haemorrhage or subsequent mental problems, but he didn't.briantrumpet said:webboo said:

It didn't put him off climbing, in fact he became a climbing guide (and started wearing a helmet). He was later killed by a summer avalanche on Les Grandes Jorasses, where a helmet wouldn't have helped.0 -

When I look at some of the limestone rockfaces they climb around Vercors, I'm not surprised that bits drop off onto climbers.

Screw them.
Really is a great example of Darwinism, isn’t it.
Incredibly well written piece by an anonymous respiratory doctor.

Pretty sure that has always remained the policy in Wales, it is so meaningless though as everyone will have a view on what they consider 'possible'.kingstongraham said:NI - work from home where possible again.
