Jurgen Klopp says refusing vaccine is like drink-driving as it endangers others.

The level of understanding is astonishing.

As in, you are surprised Klopp understands the cost to others for not being vaccinated?

As in, I'm surprised that he thinks the unvaccinated are a danger to the vaccinated.

There was a discussion on Football Weekly podcast about how some clubs inc Liverpool, Leeds had most of their players vaccinated while other PL sides would appear to rife with the conspiracy theory BS. Then there's the upcoming international break with kickballers spreading around the world inc red zone countries. But PL moneyballers ain't Joe Public so it'll all be fine, no worries.

They are a danger to those who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons, they're a danger to vulnerable people.

Agreed, but then so are the vaccinated, who can still catch and spread Covid.

Yes, it is nice and simple and Jürgen is correct. We are all potentially dangerous to other road users, but some actions or inactions can make is knowingly more dangerous.

But being unvaccinated doesn't make it more anymore dangerous for others does it... it simply makes it more dangerous for themselves.

As for Jürgen, comparing it to drink driving is full-on scaremongering.

No, I'm afraid being unvaccinated does make you more more likely to be more dangerous to others, both in terms of likelihood of infection and potential viral load.

Fair, but this study, which is yet to be peer reviewed, does suggest there is a similar level of viral load in unvaccinated and vaccinated people who were infected with the delta variant, backing up prior studies.

"Data from COVID-19 tests in the United States, the United Kingdom and Singapore are showing that vaccinated people who become infected with Delta SARS-CoV-2 can carry as much virus in their nose as do unvaccinated people."
? Want a contradicting quote from a more recent study, so we can have a quotation battle?

    That would be fun.

    Oh goody. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/vaccinated-people-are-less-likely-spread-covid-new-research-finds-n1280583

Fair, but this study, which is yet to be peer reviewed, does suggest there is a similar level of viral load in unvaccinated and vaccinated people who were infected with the delta variant, backing up prior studies.
That drops quickly, reducing transmission. Which contradicts your original thesis.

According to an unrefereed preprint, yes.

They are a danger to those who are unable to be vaccinated for medical reasons, they're a danger to vulnerable people.
They are a danger to everyone who has been vaccinated, just less so than they are to each other.

So, everyone is a danger to everyone... just less so to the vaccinated.

Yes, it is nice and simple and Jürgen is correct. We are all potentially dangerous to other road users, but some actions or inactions can make is knowingly more dangerous.

Would an analogy with two beans and another two beans be more useful?

Are you trying to tell us that a study involving 150,000 people and actual transmission patterns in the real world is more useful than one single-counting the nasal viral load of 900 people?

Yes those guys at Oxford can't be trusted with anything vaccine related, can they?
