Coronavirus and pro sport

Hearing rumours that the UTMB has been cancelled which is a similar event type to the Tour in many ways and just as prestigious in its small part of France. I would say this does not bode so well for Tour - However, there was no talk about making it later than it's usual last week of August...We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

No, although the US date format is really stupid (6/1/20).sherer said:
is it just me that hates seeing dates written like that. Should be 1st June, or even better 1st Of June. Dont like this American number only format.bobmcstuff said:No UK pro sport till at least 1 June, although that probably is a surprise to no-one https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/52619111
Does anyone know, is horse racing only taking place at one venue, or are all the horses and riders and staff criss-crossing the country0 -

Really interesting article that highlights the importance of time and exposure in the spread of Covid.gweeds said:This is an excellent read and shows the risks of indoors vs outdoors

So if an infectious runner ran too close to you - it's not a problem.
If you're sharing a work area or home with an infectious person then that's a far higher risk.0 -
There were 3 meetings in France yesterday; Paris-Longchamps (F) , Compiegne (NH) and Toulouse (F/ NH). However, in France, horse racing is administered by the agriculture dept, not sport.sherer said:

Earlier in the week, the UCI says up to five teams are experiencing significant financial turmoil: CCC, Lotto-Soudal, Mitchelton-Scott, Bahrain-McLaren and Astana.RichN95. said:CCC have confirmed they are ending sponsorship. Vino reckons Astana will fold if there's no racing this season.

Even Ineos may not be spared taking a hit

(I know this is only a subsidiary but still who knows what impact it will have on the team)0 -
thought CCC were due to pull out anyway.
Astana always seem to have issues paying wages, despite the wealth of the country behind them.
One thought I had, with France carved up into safe and unsafe areas. How much of Le Tour in in the red zone ? Obviously last stage in is Paris. All might change in a few months once this gets underway though0 -
I think as long as Ratcliffe is still a very rich man and likes cycling the team will be OK...redvision said:Even Ineos may not be spared taking a hit

This is just Ineos's side hustle though. Ineos is made up of many companies which are more or less independent of each other, each with their own board of directors. Just because one is having a rough time, one that is co-owned by the Chinese state, it doesn't follow that all the others are.Twitter: @RichN950 -

At least pro cyclists don't have this issue.0 -
Here we go.
The first cycling race since the coronavirus outbreak is next week and all 18 stages will be broadcast live.

Rejoice cycling fans, racing is back!
Admittedly, it’s not the Giro d’Italia, but we’ll take anything at the minute, and the HTV Cup in Vietnam sounds like it will do the job just perfectly.

Seems they may get the last laugh.
