Wasn't expecting this but maybe a pointer towards the Tour's chances being greater than zero?
Other sport in France remains suspended but horse racing has been given the all-clear after discussions with government officials.

Horse racing is a strange one, literally no-one would watch it if they couldn't place a bet on it.blazing_saddles said:Wasn't expecting this but maybe a pointer towards the Tour's chances being greater than zero?

Everyone wearing masks all the time (except the horses), everywhere shut that can be, and minimum time spent in changing and weighing rooms.blazing_saddles said:Wasn't expecting this but maybe a pointer towards the Tour's chances being greater than zero?

The telegraph are reporting pro sport in UK to resume from June 12th - with strict precautions/ measures in place.
Waiting patiently for the outcome of today's Premier league meeting. Sounds like there is real conflict and different opinions on the league resuming, and a growing number of players reportedly against playing until there is a vaccine.
I would suspect many athletes across all sports may feel this way.0 -
While they are still getting paid! Or those few rare sports stars that have earnt more than enough money to never have to play againredvision said:The telegraph are reporting pro sport in UK to resume from June 12th - with strict precautions/ measures in place.

In the premier League - even the lowest average yearly wage is 730k.
At Man City it's almost ten times that.

"Fulham – Denis Odoi, £109 Per Minute
(Earns £8,900 a week, played 2115 minutes in the Premier League)"
No, not hand to mouth, but not £730k either.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

The stat above was lowest average yearly wage - I assume that would be Sheffield United from this: https://talksport.com/football/646948/average-first-team-2019-salary-every-premier-league-club/0 -
So he's under the average. 9 grand a week seems pretty decent still ?pblakeney said:fenix said:In the premier League - even the lowest average yearly wage is 730k.

Yeah. Lowest average team v lowest individual player.
Anyway. The main driver will be the club's ability to stay afloat while maintaining those wages. Some were operating at a loss during the good times. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

It is similar in the sense that it takes place in the great outdoors and has been able to negotiate with the government outside of the blanket ban.fenix said:Not sure that horse racing is that similar to the Tour de France ?

I admire your optimism.RichN95. said:It's worth repeating that the planned Tour start is still 16 weeks away. Nearly a third of a year. Paris-Nice finished eight weeks ago.
it's also worth repeating that quite a few epidemiologists seem to think we'll be in various modes of lockdown for at least the rest of 2020.0 -
But it's not the public roads and moving from town to town every day. It's quite different.blazing_saddles said:

No UK pro sport till at least 1 June, although that probably is a surprise to no-one https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/526191110

Unless you know of other sports within France that have been given similar discretion.

Ok so it's outside and in France.
Apart from that - nothing like the Tour.0 -

If they can produce enough evidence that they have made so many changes that there is minimal risk... they might get an exemption.0 -

I don't see it either. It would be a different tour if they were all wearing masks, I suppose.joe2019 said:

If they can get branding onto the masks - then you might have something !0

And before this, all they had to worry about was having some p*ss thrown over them.0

is it just me that hates seeing dates written like that. Should be 1st June, or even better 1st Of June. Dont like this American number only format.bobmcstuff said:No UK pro sport till at least 1 June, although that probably is a surprise to no-one https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/52619111
Does anyone know, is horse racing only taking place at one venue, or are all the horses and riders and staff criss-crossing the country0 -
This is an excellent read and shows the risks of indoors vs outdoors
