The World Snooker Championship has been postponed.
Looking to re-schedule around the time of the TDF and Olympics.

If there is a sport that could work in an isolated environment Snooker. Test and isolate the players, referees and camera crews during the tournament, sanitise between sessions and this works. A crowd is not needed (a lot of what you hear from them is coughing anyway) and the public get much needed live sport.

Anyone wanting a sports fix, there's a documentary about Diego Maradona on Channel 4 (Saturday 9pm). I saw it in the cinema and it's really good.

Are they highlights bringing the one hour game down to one hour?
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I've found some live sport, people.

    LIVE SPORT!

Swedish Women's Bandy final on Swedish TV1 at 10:30
    Men's at 15:30
    Both times in CET.

Bandy is sort of like ice hockey crossed with football.

I happen to know one of the women playing, so I may even watch it.

Blimey. She just won the match.
3-2 down in injury time she scores a penalty to level it, and before it goes to extra time she knocks in a winner!

Yes - there is a “game in 40” option which shows every snap but none of the faff in between.

I don't often agree with what usually comes out of the guy's mouth/twitter account, but this time I think he is voicing the grave concerns of many.

still wont work too many people involved. Will still involve a massive film crew to make it all happen, as well as the daily staff at The Crucible.

Wont be local staff, so they need to stay in a hotel and all travel across from wherever in the country they live. They will all need food etc in the evening too.

Multiply that contact and you have a massive base of people that could be infected.

Sport has been shut down, we just need to deal with it.

Wouldn't surprise me if some kind of sport got special dispensation to carry on just to give people a focus. If lockdown is imposed people will go stir crazy with nothing to do . The Premier League is pushing for that and if they get it you'd imagine some other sports will get similar.

Not a chance given what was going on in Spain two weeks ago.

Surely cant be long until there is some Zwift pro racing to watch. I know the feeling on here is pretty anti-that sort of thing, but I'd watch it in the absence of anything else.

Maybe this will appeal, in that case.

Not at this moment but at some point in the future - I doubt it'll be an all or nothing approach where all sport is banned one day and the next all is allowed.

I have real doubts grassroots football will be kicking off in Sept but I'd be surprised if top pro football wasn't happening in some form by then - behind closed doors.

So talk today at the TDF is that the race would go ahead with no caravan or spectators.

I’m a bit WTF at that.

British Cycling meanwhile has now extended its suspension of sanctioned events up to 30th June.

Can't see the tour happening, or any sporting event this summer. Olympics apparently postponed.
I think the entire cycling season is gone :'(

Three months is a long time. 20 days ago this was just a Chinese thing. Let's see where we are at the end of April

Too right, it's not as if it's happening tomorrow.
Yet with still almost 5 months to the Olympics and the hosts already pretty much on top of this thing, the pressure groups seem to have already got their way.

How are athletes supposed to train properly for these events?

eh? I'm not sure you get the seriousness of the problem. Im not a bed wetting whiner but this is potentially going to cripple everyone s healthcare services. the olympics is perfect fro the precipitation of a second wave. I doubt it will go ahead

We're 15-18 months away from a vaccine. Until that is widely available, we're going to go through cycles of lockdown, an ease on restrictions, then another lockdown.

No athlete in any impacted country is going to be able to prepare properly, there is no reason other than tradition that the Olympics can't be moved to next year, or later, and the sooner that decision is made the better, otherwise athletes will be risking their, and others, health to prepare.
