Well I guess if the stage is cancelled it’ll balance out the excitement we had up until yesterday. This is the Tour after all, it can’t be too exciting.

If they call of the stage can we have a Tour with no winner?

We've already had a stage with no winner.

To be fair, if the stage had finished yesterday Bernal might have a 4 minute lead, at least there is some interest today!

Bullshit! He might have blown up on Tignes and Thomas be in yellow.

He hasn't won a stage yet, so if he wants to put his stamp on this victory and not be thought of as a lucky winner he needs to win today.
The way he was riding? Yeah, sure he would have.

Weather looks good in Alberville at present!
No caravanne though on VT road.
Bit brighter now but still raining hard.

Still a 2.30 pm start French time. Be 25 minutes or so to the base of the climb, maybe a little longer.

Have you watched cycling before? How many attacks from 50km out get reeled back in? Bernal has not been the best at any point up until the Iseran. To say he'd be gaining 5+ minutes on a 7km climb is ridiculously counterfactual.

Who was reeling him in, exactly? There was no peloton left on the road. It was man vs man. Bernal was likely to have worked with Yates and taken the stage. There was a small chance the Jumbo duo may have brought him back a bit but then GT could have launched an attack.

Are you blind to what was happening on the road? Of that 50k remaining not much was left uphill.

Add in the steepness of the first 3 kms of the final climb, and JA would be off the podium.

    Wow, where is that?

It was in a twitter exchange between Le Tour and Tignes, so some where up near there, I would guess.

Some good news at last. Fingers crossed.

Steven K still had a domestique and Thomas was riding pillion. I agree Alaphilippe would have probably lost time bit people get so carried away when a guy gets a 40 second gap and think that means he's somehow would have been minutes better on the final climb

    The Galibier, no?

I am obviously sad for Geraint, but like him, pretty philosophical about what happens on the road.
I have to admit that it appears that Bernal has had the best legs, so far in the Alps.
But I agree that a 4 minute lead, given the chase group constitution is more than a bit fanciful.
To much pointless speculation and "what iffing" going on.

Bernal vs SK. I know who my money is on taking more time.

And it was Bernal + Yates

If Bernal was able to take 5 minutes on 1 stage why hasn't he shown such form previously?

Blazing I agree, too much what iffing. Bernal took the lead he did and that's all we know. Let's see if he's got the legs to back it up again today

If one watches Bernal's attack again, it was Kruijswijk who tried to follow. He couldn't, pulled over and with Geraint next in line. that was it. He waved bye bye and was free and clear.

With De Plus up the road and at that point had not been called back, it would have been more sensible to continue to ride on Bernal's wheel, call De Plus back and meet up somewhere on the road.
So, I take any talk about SK saving it for the Tignes climb with just a pinch of salt.
