Or alternatively maybe he regards the debate as not in his interests. Is it his job to go to a debate to have a likely large amount of dirt thrown at him by Hunt. If you are not a Tory member then you don't have a vote so me listening to the two of them is not particularly productive use of my time.

Yeah, it's not like he's pitching for an important job or anything.

I hope you joined the Tory party over three months ago to get your say in this important appointment as it clearly niggles you. Unfortunately if you have not then you have no say in this important position and should maybe take a chill pill unless you want to rewrite the rules for our parties leadership selection processes.

Yes we are a one-party state are we not?

that front cover is a mock up or a set up or an old pic right? good journo's have lost their career over less!

Why would he grow his hair so quickly just for one photograph?
I now think this is a next level stitch up by Osborne. Put up an obviously faked picture, move the debate back to de Pfeffel after the coordinated Con pitch to make the story about the neighbours not the a-hole responsible.

They could do a final Jeremy Kyle as a farewell focusing on Johnson's life.

Can bring on his ex-wives, various illegitimate children. They'll put him on a lie detector test and ask him how many kids he has.

They'll highlight his proclivity to not caring where he parks and paying the fines like some anti-social yob. They'll discuss his drug use. How he got sacked from one of his jobs for lying. How he offered up a journo's details to be beaten up.

They'll bring up his membership of a youth gang which vandalised restaurants and student rooms.

What's the difference between him and folk who ended up on Jeremy Kyle?

So should left-wingers not be able to raise concerns about right-wingers, or contact the press, and vice versa? If a right-winger had a juicy story on Jeremy Corbyn, they shouldn't be allowed to contact The Telegraph?
Of course they can, it's a free country. I am simply casting doubt on their motives for doing what they did. Also it appears that this thread needs a bit of balance, as do some others on here :)
So one's motives for an action must be ideologically pure? Like politicians never pushing for something that would benefit them personally?
Where did I say that? To repeat my point, they were less concerned about welfare than making political capital. As mentioned above looks like leftie sh1t stirring.
Oh, you now know their motives? Good, glad we've got that cleared up.

Even so, it's newsworthy. They had every right to contact the press, irrespective of their political leanings. Of course, press reporting pretty much relies on people with an axe to grind for getting the juicy stuff - supporters of miscreants tend not to be so keen on telling all. I trust you'll call every one out from now on.
Blimey, things have moved on a bit since I looked on here last (been busy).

As mentioned, simply casting doubt on their motives, which appears to have caused a minor centre left sh1t storm on here :)

True. And, he's still someone I'd stand a drink unlike the actual candidates (Stewart aside). But he does have that whole Tory "I'm not actually prepared to own up to which pond life I'm going to vote for and say is great despite all that stuff I said about them last month and, by the way, just to distract you from your question, isn't Corbyn terrible?" thing going on perfectly!
I'll take that as a compliment, thanks Rolf :) If you ever venture to the Big Smoke, drop me a PM.

Cant say I'm keen on either. Boris does look like he could be better at getting the voters out (on more than one side, granted). I don't get to vote on this anyway - unlike some on here - and unfortunately science hasn't advanced to the stage where they can clone Maggie, Jurassic Park style. So I'll just sit back and see what happens...

Indeed. For all Hunt's pointing out Johnson's lack of plans and avoidance of debate, he doesn't seem to have any better ideas on how to move forward. Just vague promises of renegotiation.

And somewhat hilariously Corbyn is now wading in and criticising them both for their lack of plans......

To be fair, I think that Bojo does outclass everyone else for lack of plans beyond "renegotiating TMs deal in time for the absolutely definite withdrawal in October". And of course that is worrying as he will be the one whose lack of plans will be implemented.

PS - ha, may take you up on that then Stevo. I do get into that London on a reasonably regular basis!

Just reading the write up of Johnson's LBC interview. Not sure why he bothered as he gave no answers to anything. He's running entirely on his 'personality' and blind optimism.

I watched the Laura Kuenssberg interview where she thinks that his private life should be aired. I am guessing if I asked Laura for details of her intimate private life she might not be forthcoming. Surely I need to know how one of the BBC's key political correspondents private life may or may not affect her judgement. Shame big BOJO did not ask her about the last row she had with her partner. Trump would have given it a go:)

I was thinking of something more substantive than the distraction of his row with his girlfriend and the obviously staged make-up photo.

There is a legitimate argument to be had about what extent politicians' private lives should be up for scrutiny.

Your post, however, is not that legitimate discussion, it is merely a pathetic piece of tribalist tit-for-tat whataboutery.

Hunt being interviewed now on his Brexit strategy, which will magically unite the Tories, the DUP, not include the backstop and be acceptable to the EU.

Other than that it's a secret.

Hunt: Johnson but with less chaos.

It's a class strategy by the sensible wing of the Conservatives, let a gullible pair of egomaniacs fight it out to see who can be at the helm when the shoot truly hits the fan (you aint seen nothing yet) then the MP's who kept their heads down, rebuild a moderate cons party after all the fuss has died down...

Coulrophobia: why clowns trigger our fear reflexes
The “scary clown” craze has now spread to the UK. It’s widely accepted that clowns are scary. But what is it about clowns that causes fear and revulsion?

In a year of horrifying and ridiculous happenings, the “scary clown” craze may be the most surreal yet. , because we don’t have enough awfulness going on right now. Despite the unsettling name, as far as we know, these clowns have not killed anyone yet. And yet, they’re still scary. Clowns are widely recognised as things to be feared. But… why?

The “uncanny valley” effect is a phenomenon whereby things that look human but “aren’t quite there” are incredibly unsettling.

the whole point of clowns is that they do things which defy normal behaviour. Unpredictability is something which causes knee-jerk distrust and apprehension in humans.

It seems human evolution, particularly that of our brains, just didn’t equip us to deal rationally with Bozo and his pals.
