So how does washing your dirty cycling clothing on a cold wash in a washing machine on the top of hill save the planet.
    As in the Ariel advert.
Do these people in advertising believe no one has the ability to think.

You don’t need a pump to drain. 😉
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

Yeahbut while 1990 is in people's recent memory 1979 does feel a long time ago.
Mention James Callaghan and a common response will be - who?

The one that makes me feel old is that the Falklands War was closer to the end of WW2 than today. I still remember it well whilst at the time WW2 seemed like ancient history. I think it is also partly as much of the equipment used in the Falklands was vastly different to WW2 but seems more like today's stuff (mainly due to the use of helicopters and jets I suppose, I think some of the ships were WW2 relics).

I once remember reading that perception of time is a product of age.
For example when you are 10 years old 5 years is 50% of your life so seems a long time. When you are 50 years old 5 years is only 10% so seems not so long.

Music is an even better way of feeling depressingly old.

The "oldies" on the radio in the 80s were no more than 25-30 years old. Oasis were a thing 25 years ago.

Depends what music one listens to... I listen to Bach, Brahms and Basie, and they're all old and dead, so I feel quite young still....

Just ignore the fact that Frankie Goes to Hollywood is also almost equidistant between the end of WW2 and now.

Maybe someone can educate me, because I don’t like being ignorant, but I don’t understand the outrage that’s occurred here:

A photograph, commissioned by Dior, of a very striking young woman has become “they’re trying to say we all look like this”. I’m keen to not tell people how to feel, but I struggle to see beyond the artistry.

    Of course you do.

Somehow I imagine you sitting on a green leather upright chair, wearing a red velvet smoking jacket, with a gramophone in the background playing a record shaped like a taco.

The basis is that people think it reflects poorly on the country ("sinister eyes") and plays to a western stereotype i.e. ignoring all the beautiful eyes in China. By doing so they are, of course, eye shaming someone. It's a ridiculous position, but I'm sure some people will be sympathetic.

North Korea tries to police the photos tourists take. They don't like tourists taking photos that they think reflect North Korea badly e.g. poverty, buildings under construction. The reason for this is they feel the western world focuses too much on the negative stuff and only publishes the stereotype that North Korea is poor. If there was a North Korean twitter people would be outraged by the publication of negative photos. It is a similar thing although in the case above the negative thing happens to be an actual person.

It does seem odd, I was expecting to find somewhere in the article that they'd edited the eyes to make them smaller, but that doesn't seem to be the case

How the migrants on that raft got through on the phone to authorities in both France and UK.

I am surprised they weren't just directed to a website "Where you can find answers to common questions".

Good point. There is plenty of good online coverage though.
