Chesham and Amersham is obvs the classic LibDem wokey-dokey sort of place. Paging the Toryfanbois club... paging the ToryFanbois club... we're missing your scintillating perpectives.

I think most people have already sussed it's an anti-HS2 protest vote, doesn't need me to tell you that. Which is kind of appropriate as the Lib Dems are a fringe protest party these days ;)

Anyhow, I guess we're back to a paltry 80 seat majority. Hey ho :)
Tories not paying attention to what's happening in South, and writing things off as local difficulties, seems to be potentially ignoring a major realignment in how the UK is voting.

I think they realise there is a shift but unlike some people on here, they can also spot what is a genuine local difficulty.
The planning reforms aren't just a local issue. They affect leafy Kent, too.
    There's a by-election in Kent as well?

Sadly for you, everyone gets the one vote just like you high brow intellectuals ;) Seems to remember you being less amused about what you saw as a similar point after the Brexit referendum.

He seems to have tapped into that sort or sneering, superior attitude to attract that support base though. Maybe if people stopped treating those without degrees as some sort of stupid educational underclass they may have more appeal.

Haha. As opposed to national papers constantly whining about 'metropolitan elites' and having a go at 'experts'.

Well it could be a good demonstration of his appeal to former Labour voters

Labour were never formed as the party of people of working age, you are trying to be smart by subtly swapping 'working class' for 'working age'. So the use of 'still' is simply wrong.

Maybe I am too PR minded but politics is about balancing all the different interest groups, in which we all overlap in different ways.

Looking at who votes for parties is fairly important to judge how they approach politics as it is about which interest groups they appeal to.

Particularly in a period of polarisation where turnout of your own lot is more important.

People who live here. At the moment, both major parties seem to be defining themselves in part as being against part of their own country.

The hard working white collar workers who slog at their computer every damn day. Sometimes before 8 and well after 5 pm.

Sometimes we even have back to back meetings for a whole half day and can barely make time for a coffee.

I get it that you're a boy done good from Redcar or whatever it is, but I'd suggest that not every successful person is that because they're wonderful or that they've worked hard and not everyone who is hard up is awful or lazy.

What about "hard working families"? I thought that was all politicians care about (if you listened to their soundbites).

If i'm bit of a slacker, does my vote count less?
