Love the way everyone keeps talking about it as though it is still only plans on a drawing board. If they were voting based on HS2, they are about two elections too late.ugo.santalucia said:Most likely HS2 related. There is still strong opposition to the project in the area and obviously now that it looks completely pointless, there was maybe a justified expectation that the government would put the brakes on the project.

Classic by election protest vote on local issues or a sign that people do want a decent alternative to the Tories but Labour hasn't been offering it?
The Lib Dems threw everything at it, maybe it's a lesson that they need to make themselves more visible instead of hiding in the sidelines all the time.
Not sure it can be anything more than a protest in relation to HS2 though as having a local Lib Dem MP opposed to it won't make any difference.0 -
And the Lib dems' 2019 manifesto was pro hs2. So there's that.rjsterry said:

Quite. I can't find a mention of HS2 in Sarah Green's social media.kingstongraham said:

If we ignore the voters on here who would vote for Peter Sutcliffe if he wore a blue rosette, and listen to people who fall in the traditional Conservative bracket, or have voted for both sides previously, Boris isn't that attractive.Pross said:Classic by election protest vote on local issues or a sign that people do want a decent alternative to the Tories but Labour hasn't been offering it?

He resonates with a portion of the red wall, but even then, that support is at risk if his wife writes more of his speeches about wanting a gender neutral feminine economy.

Chesham and Amersham is obvs the classic LibDem wokey-dokey sort of place. Paging the Toryfanbois club... paging the ToryFanbois club... we're missing your scintillating perpectives.0

I think the planning law reform combined with that will have been a big indication that they've been taken for granted by the tories.0 -

Nothing is changing with HS2. It's been all systems go around the Coventry area for the last 15 months. TBF I'm pretty impressed by the amount of progress that has been made.0
-
Indeed. Billions has been spent already on enabling works, design and the first year or so of construction. Thousands of people have been recruited into jobs, many of whom would probably have been furloughed or made redundant if there wasn't this huge project for people to work on.rjsterry said:I mean, actual construction work is under way and has been for some time.
Must declare my interest, as i work on an HS2 project.0 -

they may have noticed that Carrie wants them to spend £12k on a air source heat pump and Boris will probably introduce a buddy system so you buy one for a norverner.kingstongraham said:

Lots of anger about planning regs as well.
I thought it was a recognied fact that the more people are exposed to Boris the less they like him and that the "likeable schtick" quickly wears thin.
All in all a safe way to shoot a salvo ascross the bows to make a point about not being taken for granted0 -
The public consultation was a decade ago. If you felt aggrieved by the result of that why would you have voted Conservative or LibDem in any of the subsequent elections?kingstongraham said:

And in planning reform, how do you now take the promises that it will be ok, the nice tories will look after places like this?0 -
Possibly. I see that fairly regularly at the smaller end of the scale. But again, all of the major parties support HS2. I just don't think it has much to do with this election. As for planning reform, I don't think anyone has a clue.kingstongraham said:

Round here people are upset thinking there are future plans to disrupt the village.
Plans that went through public consultation 5 years ago.The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

I think most people have already sussed it's an anti-HS2 protest vote, doesn't need me to tell you that. Anyhow, I guess we're back to a paltry 80 seat majority. Hey ho"I spent most of my money on birds, booze and fast cars: the rest of it I just squandered." [George Best]0 -
Presumably anyone putting it down to an HS2 protest vote is also calling the voters poorly informed, as the public consultation was years back.
Or is it only OK to call the voters poorly informed when it doesn't go your way.2 -

Christ, if the tories are suffering in elections because of things they've done, they really should be worried.
