Just watching Signore Volpe (Mrs Fox) starring, well you may have guessed Emilia Rose Fox ! It's on AcornTV.

Low rent detective pap in the style of Miss Marple meets a year in, well not provence but somewhere similar. There is the usual mix of swarthy, corrupt Italian police, sly locals and nasty Russians!

Emilia expresses a very limited range of emotions in her acting range: disapproval, curiosity and that is about it. Enough for Prime Suspect but rather limiting in something a bit (but not much) more stretching.

It also stars Tara Fitzgerald who appears to have gone lame in her dotage but out acts young Emilia.

Both the Italian backdrop, Tara and Emilia look good though.

It's not plagiarism when it's a sanctioned and paid for adaptation.

But I watched episode one and it was pretty boring. And then the guy who might have made it watchable died.

Oh there is making under license and trying to copy, as much as you can, every single chracter.

If they could have injected just a tiny bit of originality in, it may have made it a teensy bit bearable.

    But no, totalshyte.

Ozark - Season 4 should have been the last. It is in danger of overstaying it's welcome.

Well, it turns out that post was made at the 1/2 way break in series 4.
The second half escalates very quickly. Much more like it.

Unfortunately it finishes with an open ending so no doubt series 5 will rear it's head.
I stand my my original opinion even if the second half of series 4 was good.

The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

If Brexit/the Tory party was a tv programme, this would be it.

It reminded me of the BBC show Absolute Power (in terms of premise), with Stephen Fry and John Bird. So I stuck with the Amazon show for an episode longer, hoping it would improve and get close to the brilliance of that show. It doesn’t though, Amazon should have just saved their money and rerun the BBC show IMO.

Very much enjoying the ever excellent John Simm in the detective series Grace, on itv player.

Appears to be five 1h40 episodes on there, watched 2 over the last 2 evenings.

Just watched the first one of the second series. I said upthread somewhere that I was disappointed with the first 'series' (it was only one double episode) but felt this one was far closer to the book which was the first I read.

I still think they'd be better stretching each case out and putting more time into the detail of the investigation which is where the books are so strong and also making more of the Brighton setting as the city is as big a character in the books as any of the police.

Anyone seen "Pistol" on Disney Plus?

Basically the story of the Sex Pistols in a serial adaptation of Steve Jones's autobiography "Lonely Boy" directed by Danny Boyle.

The characters (particularly Johnny Rotten and Malcolm Mclaren) are cartoonish but deliberately so I think.

Centres a lot around the shop "Sex" and how this gave birth to the Pistols, their rise and implosion

Thoroughly enjoyed it and the nostalgia from my yoof - reminded me how we used to do Jubilees amongst other things.

    Dopesick.

Drama about OxyContin and the usual evil big pharma who somehow managed to get their new wonder opioid drug passed the regulators with the claim that is was non-addictive, knowing full well that it was.

Good cast, well acted, worth a watch.

    I clearly missed that.

Odd the 'first series' was one episode, assume the first was a pilot?

Due to ITV Player not easily displaying what order the episodes are meant to be in, we then ended up watching the 4th episode of S2, followed by the 1st one :#

I have never read the books, but may well do so now, but do agree they don't seem to capture much of the location, and it does feel a bit rushed - probably two parts / 3 hours, would work a lot better, but I guess they have some kind of target they are meant to hit.

One thing I will say, the subject matter so far, is pretty intense, certainly not easy viewing, but very gripping. I think we watched 3 episodes in fairly quick succession, but we're going to take a little break now, and revisit in a bit for the final 2, all be it episodes 2 & 3 now for us :/

The first series was supposed to include the first episode of the second series. I suspect filming got affected by lockdown so they just released what they had in the can.

The most recent one I watched (third episode of series 2) amended the plot a bit and the locations were changed which may have been to reduce the budget or due to pandemic. In the book the villain uses 9/11 to disappear and one of the bodies turns up in Australia.

    Under the Banner of Heaven

On Hulu in the US so illegal only for us Britz and I suspect may stay that way given the niche content.

The only reason I knew about it is because I picked up the book while on Fieldwork in Utah (Heaven indeed for clastic petroleum geologists) as it was written by John Krakauer - who I assume most of you are familiar with.

Conservative Mormons go a bit too traditional and trouble ensues. A Mormon Detective finds his skills and his faith tested to the limits etc.

It's pretty good. Not too dissimilar to Mare of Easttown. Somehow our brethren Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar Jones have found themselves in it.

I'm only half an hour in to We Own This City - the follow up/para-sequel/Series 7 of The Wire - but I can say for certain that fans of the original HAVE to watch it just for the cameos that do be like...

    Highly recommend ‘Unbelievable’ on Netflix.

One series, about 8 or 10 episodes I think.

Parallel stories based around a serial rapist.

One story follows a victim who is herself a product of the care system and ultimately isn’t a credible witness.

Other story follows the investigation into other rapes.

Features Toni Collette and an otherwise not well known cast but is very well put together. Steady paced and really takes time to explore themes. Gives just an inkling of how horrible it must be to investigate offensive crimes for a living.

Sherwood is looking quite decent after the first wo episodes. Quite a slow burner but a very strong cast. Makes me realise how annoying traditional TV is when you have to wait to the following week for next episodes though.

The Boys. Amazon Prime, 3rd season now playing.

Superhero’s manufactured by a company are a bunch of debauched murdering @rseholes.

Plenty of blood & guts, sex, exploding heads. What’s not to like. Top stuff.

I finally watched Breaking Bad. Bit underwhelmed. I suspect it is because I didn't really like any of the characters.

    All of it?

I only ask as I wasn't really that fussed, but ended up watching it on the turbo to pass the time and see what the fuss is about. It's pretty exciting come the final two seasons, which I appreciate is a long time to spend getting into it.

Mike was the best character, not sure you are really meant to like any of them though.

Yes, as I said, I think that's why I didn't really like it. Not that it is wrong, just not for me.

*Nice pic of Miriam by the way - she is clearly under utilised, why isn't she in more series - I think a major investigation should be carried out forthwith.

she's just posted another clip from Diabolik on Insta, delayed due to Covid but hopefully we'll get it soon

Mike is also in the Breaking Bad spin off, Better Call Saul. He is equally good in that.

I highly recommend Better Call Saul for those who enjoyed Breaking Bad.

It focuses on the lawyer Saul Goodman, and how he spiralled into the dodgy guy in Breaking Bad.

Towards the end of Better Call Saul, i'm on season 5 now, the timeline starts approaching Breaking Bad territory, and it is rumoured that Walt and Jesse are to play cameo roles.

It wasn't as shocking as what happened in episode 1 of this season.

To be fair, the start of episode 1 season 1 was quite something.

I like it, and I really don't watch any superhero stuff.

True. That was a nuts storyline.
What got me in E6 was not the plot or foreground, but the all encompassing background.
