Nasty crash at about 100m to go, Kruijswijk had to be helped over the line and Magnus Cort's gear was ripped to shreds, broken fork for a Bike Canyon rider- think a Katusha rider still down.

Haven't seen the crash so don't know how serious it was but hope Kruijswijk is ok for the Giro

Cort is a DNS for tomorrow. Kruijswijk apparently OK.

Both Cort and Russell Downing broke collarbones in the crash.

    And Marco Haller too.

Nasty crash (it looked it on TV, my 7 year old fled the room, she doesn't like seeing injured people).

We were stood on the side of Garrowby Hill and a "VIP" car pulled next to us, out popped Mr Prudhomme and Gary V. Both charming and chatty and being driven round by an ex French Pro, Christophe Le Mevel. Top 10 in TDF apparently.

Support on the roads was just as good as previous years it seems

This is the proper deal this race

I get the impression that they quite enjoy the reaction they get. It's on a slightly lower rank, but a colleague of mine dragged her bloke out drinking last year and he does some of the reconnaissance, recommending places and roads that might look good. He said that what he likes is that people rarely scoff or take the piss, but come out with suggestions.

At that point I started advocating for the hilarity that is Rosedale Chimney, which meet with quite the groan - they'd love to, apparently (not least as they're feed up of being told to do it), but it's not really practical just because of the caravan and support vehicles.

Back to the racing though, I had to pick the kids up and head to Scotland because I'm too thick to read a calendar properly - how was it? Saw the crash once I got to bonny Glasgow, but nothing of the earlier highlights.

Kruijswijk's not had much luck since becoming the Abominable Agnello Snowman.

Didn't one of these races do it the other year or was that just my imagination?

Did it for the first time last week...in a car and down not up. It's savage and there is a long stretch of narrow road after it which would require careful planning but more doable from a logistcal point if view than say Hardknott I'd have thought.

Whitby is lovely btw if anyone hasn't visited.

Women's race now live on ITV4. Suprisingly early start, they should be finished a couple of hours before the men's race even starts.

Last year they used the same support vehicles (including Sir Gary and M. Prudhomme), all drove back from the finish to the start to go again, expect it will be same this year.

Yeah I'd just been thinking that as I was watching the NEG riders filtering past the peloton. Makes perfect sense from an organisational point of view. Maybe less than ideal for spectators hoping to catch both races though.

van der Breggen and Deignan looking impressive on the climb, dropping the rest of the peloton.

It's looking finely balanced at the moment, the chase group is working well.

    Big crowds in Ripon.
