  • GvA at 10/1 looks tasty surely, especially E/W? Got up off his ass with a big cut on his leg to drive it to the finish and snatch 2nd on the line. I'm plumping for that.

Only one podium in 2015 and no team apart from Oss.

And a tactically conservative team too.

    Exactly.

    He's too small for PR.

His back shape is OK though, isn't it?

Comparable to O'Grady, van Petegem and Flecha

He's not tiny compared to, say, a stage racer, but he is smaller than most Paris Roubaix winners.

I don't think he has the absolute power numbers to match the likes of Boonen, Sagan, Vanmarcke, Stannard etc.

Then again Roubaix is about luck as well as talent. He could find himself in a small group near the end and he has been sprinting brilliantly this year.

For the Cannondale fans, the word was that Phinney had minor concussion after his spill at RVV but that he might make it to PR. So that could be your great hope! :D

No need to chill anything with bubbles then :D

Organisers add colours to the star rating.

Vanmarcke confirmed as a non starter.

Always remember - it's more likely you rider will crash than win.

Lars Boom offers some good odds especially as the best cobbled riders are now either retired (Cancellara), out (Vanmarcke) or old (Tommeke)

He couldn't finish ahead of Bram in Flanders however.

That's my only concern. I was hoping someone might know why. It's his worst finish at Flanders.

Sagan weighs sub 75kg apparently. Geraint Thomas has always been able to live with most of the hard stuff at under 70kg. Not sure weight alone means much.

    Hayman: 78kg
    Degenkolb: 79kg
    Terpstra: 75kg
    Cancellara: 81kg
    Boonen: 82 kilos
O'Grady: 71Kg (but let's face it, that was a ridiculous edition and he was NOT the strongest on the day).
    vansummeren: 76 kilos
    Backstedt: 94 kilos.

I mentioned a few names up the thread. (Wikipedia weights)

    O'Grady 71kg
    Van Petegem 70kg
    Flecha 72kg

(And O'Grady's was great edition - riders all over the place and nobody really knew what was going on half the time)

Only one of those is an A lister Roubaix rider. (albeit the lightest).

Weight doesn't = watts always, Rick.

  • This edition is genuinely wide open, perhaps more than Flanders was.

As the 3 main favourites from Flanders are either not riding or not suited to the Roubaix cobbles
  • Forgot to add above, weather will be similar to 2007, high pressure and not much wind, and it has been mainly dry for the last week in Northern France

Also, 5 pages of preview and we're still 4 days away!

    Bets are on:

    e/w on Rowe at 33/1
    e/w on Stybar at 22/1

and a free £5 on Boonen at 5/1

Natch but Greg isn't well suited to Roubaix compared to Flanders and he himself says he is 5 kilos too light for Roubaix

No, doesn't always you're right. But there is a pretty high correlation.

We're not looking at A lister status - just the potential to win. Two of them did and the other was in the top four on five occasions.
