Milan San Remo 2017 - Spoilers

When I looked earlier it was from his PM and his data wasnt blocked for once. With that huge effort for the last few minutes I would say it was no way 'only' 450 ish.
Edit. Saying that though. Just checked all the others riders with genuine power data and they were all around 440/450 without that huge jump of the top 3.0 -

My take is that Bertie's realised that he won't win much, so is taking a few more risks to see what happens. I suspect part of the appeal for him is that he gets to race, rather than calculate.
Meanwhile, the whole wattage thing depresses me. The sensitivity to the assumptions made seems to me to invalidate the whole thing, and that's before you consider whether we have a sensible handle on what 'normal' really is. Back in the days of ridiculous doping extraordinary performances happened regularly. Three riders getting just about enough of a break that they can contest the sprint but can't mess about because the remains of the peloton are visible within shot is not extraordinary.0 -

Shows how flat out Dumoulin/sky were riding... or that the fact there was no let up in the pace is unusual
Thanks for posting the reality - that it was the monster that is Tom Dumolin that pulled everyone up the Poggio - to the point where the "obviously doping Sky rider" couldnt hold the wheel
As I tweeted at the time, Dumolin could co-star with Emma Watson as both Prince and Beast! We're in danger of confusing passion with incompetence

I did find it funny when big Tom D was pulling on the front and it did look like he was putting a effort in, and yet you looked at DVP just behind him and his face looked all calm, riding at a nice pace that suited Viviani.0

Errr no which is why I asked.
Having read below that it is the last climb then I think it's not so high. Based on my own feeble efforts even I can hold 350 watts for 5 mins. Oddly only on a hill of just steep enough but not too steep.0 -
More importantly what a great finale!0

Try not to let it bug you. It used to make me fed up, now it washes over me like water off a duck's bum0 -
How long before Tom D is in black and blue.0

Given his comments late last year, how about never0 -

didn't have internet access to comment at the time but managed to watch it with the parentals.
race didn't really get going until the Poggio and by then Cav was already out the back. Great move by Sagan and showed how strong a rider he is. Can fuly understand the others making him do more of the work in the break, he still only missed out by inches.
Always like Kwia too so not too disappointed he got the win.
Unfortunately i'm working away for the next two weeks so going to be RvD and Roubaix :-(0 -

So caught up with the race last night and you folks only now.
To Blazing'ss point - until Sagan attacked it really was pretty boring. Lacked the mad dashes off the front of earlier years.
My man Skujins in the break (and live tweeting as he went) with my man, the little flower, taking the win. C'mere Kwia, signing for Sky and the meh season are all forgotten!0 -

Can blame your man Dumolin for making it boring.

Also a distinct lack of photos...
My man Skujins leading the race...
The moment
Sagan just goes all balls out... Alaphilippe's helmet looks shoot on his wee shaved head... needs to sort it out if he is going to be a true champion...
The photo that goes into the history books
I'm astonished that no one has mentioned the abomination on Sagan's face...

Ja ja... but we'd had folks pinging off the front before the Poggio... Oss in previous years I recall...0 -

Do you have any link handy? If not, i will search after work, i've not been following much. Was kind of suspecting Brailsford eyeing him to replace Froome after interview with them post some tdf stage last year.0 -

"Het is erg raar dat Wiggins telkens in dezelfde periode die medicatie nam. En inspuiten? Dan heb je dus heel erge astma, zoiets doen ze bij normale astmapatiënten al niet", aldus Dumoulin.
"Laat staan bij sporters die alleen maar inspanningsastma hebben. Blijkbaar werkte die spuit van Wiggins ook nog eens wekenlang... Dan moet je wat mij betreft weken uit competitie. Dat zaakje stinkt."0 -

very good photo. No Canc or Boonen next year, going to be really different without those two0 -

is the gold lettering on the frame just for Boonen ?
Black socks should be banned by the UCI.0 -

So... I buy this rule if it is only applicable to pros. It is thoroughly impractical for those of us that have to ride through UK crap covered roads and clean all our own kit. Much the same as the disc brake debate. Disc brakes work great for us casual riders, but can see why not for pros. No need for one size fits all..0 -

Fair fair.
I wore non-white socks when we rode in the rain.
Still, something to aspire to, right?0 -
Keep an eye on Sagan's cadence this year.
To me it seems a bit faster than it used to be, especially in the attack.
We know who famously made that change halfway through his career.....0 -
