with Formigal no2 developing in Catalunia i can safely state that except Kwiatkowski the whole Sky team is a bad joke this season.

maybe Braislford should be fired, like Ranieri.

Dear me. Try actually looking at results eh?

Their performance in Catalunya today was pretty morose, to be fair.

Still, I think they can take heart from the Monument and on on...

Henao won Paris-Nice. Thomas won a stage at Tirreno and finished 5th overall.

for the biggest budget in cycling ? hahaha

it's like ManC will settle for a 5th in the league and a League Cup semifinal....

Doesn't mean you win every race does it. FFS

SKYs budget V performance puts them at the higher end of the scale. You really need to be looking at Katusha or Astana for underperformers.

Come July, most people will struggle to recall who won races in February and March. Sky have had a successful start to the season, irrespective of what you think. Most teams would be happy with a monument and a couple of other WT race wins at the end of the season. Sky's season will be considered a failure if they don't win the Tour, which shows that they are judged to a far higher standard than most, if not all, other teams.

Sky haven't done badly so far. P-N and a monument is good going, plus Strade Bianche and MSR. Most teams would kill for that...

Being one of the higher budget teams doesn't mean you win everything!

What proportion of races should sky be winning, if this is a bad start to the season?

    EVEN ONES THEY DON'T ENTER

They've won P-N, Strade Bianchi & MSR, but frankly I don't see them having won on a rainy night in Stoke. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let's put it in some context.

BMC BMC RACING TEAM USA AME
BOH BORA - HANSGROHE GER EUR

KAT TEAM KATUSHA ALPECIN SUI EUR
TLJ TEAM LOTTO NL - JUMBO NED EUR
    SKY TEAM SKY GBR EUR
    SUN TEAM SUNWEB GER EUR
TFS TREK - SEGAFREDO USA AME
    UAD UAE TEAM EMIRATES

18 teams in the world tour.

Let's focus just on world tour races.

All world tour races have some pro-conti teams too. Let's say they win 5% of the time.

The other 95% is split between 18 teams.

17.01 › 22.01 Santos Tour Down Under PORTE 2.UWT 6 days (plus overall).
29.01 Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race ARNDT 1.UWT 1 day
    23.02 › 26.02 Abu Dhabi Tour COSTA 2.UWT 4 days (plus overall)
25.02 Omloop Het Nieuwsblad VAN AVERMAET 1.UWT 1 day
    04.03 Strade Bianche KWIATKOWSKI 1.UWT 1 day
    05.03 › 12.03 Paris-Nice HENAO 2.UWT 8 days (plus overall)
    08.03 › 14.03 Tirreno-Adriatico QUINTANA 2.UWT 7 days (plus overall)
    18.03 Milano-Sanremo KWIATKOWSKI 1.UWT 1 day
    20.03 › 26.03 Volta Ciclista a Catalunya VALVERDE 2.UWT 7 days (plus overall)
22.03 Dwars Door Vlaanderen / A travers la Flandre LAMPAERT 1.UWT 1 day
24.03 Record Bank E3 Harelbeke VAN AVERMAET 1.UWT 1 day
26.03 Gent-Wevelgem in Flanders Fields VAN AVERMAET 1.UWT 1 day.

So I make that 39 days of racing, plus 5 overalls up for grabs.

so let's call it roughly 45 'cos i've probably mis counted or added one too many.

Of the 45 opportunities, how many should sky have won, vs the other 18?

So what proportion ought Sky to be winning enachv?

Yes but a dull lullaby by a cycling fan is difficult enough to stay awake through let alone answer, he's probably not even woken up since reading it.

They won a monument and MSR? That's impressive.

As if to support Rick's point - 5th in Inrng's analysis, which is possibly worse than their budget would suggest but their goals are mostly later in the year.

That's just a victory ranking though, where a win in Milan-San Remo has the same weight as a stage win in the Herald Sun Tour.

Well that's why Rick focused on WT wins only, innit.
