    I posted the '100 days to Omloop' on my Facebook a few months back. Literally counting down the days since last month. Riding the Ronde and PR sportives this year, but have to come back between them. One year I'll book six weeks off and just stay in Belgium from OHN to PR

    Sleeting on the recon rides for the riders; a nice sharp shock from the hot weather training races.

    Unfortunately it's gonna be dry tomorrow, but should be a fun race.

    Am going to stick to my rule of not betting until I've seen them race in anger.

    In total the riders will have to tame the cobbles of the Haaghoek three times. In between Donderij, Ruiterstraat, Karel Martelstraat and Holleweg are the cobblestone sections the peloton will pass by. After the climb of the Molenberg, in the last straight line to the finish, Paddestraat, Lippenhovestraat and Lange Munte await the riders.

    Between the first two passages of the Haaghoek (after 52km and 107km), these are the climbs of the 2017 route: Leberg, Berendries, Tenbosse, Eikenmolen, Muur van Geraardsbergen/Kapelmuur and Valkenberg. Afther that Kaperij, Kruisberg, Taaienberg, Eikenberg, Wolvenberg, Leberg once again and Molenberg will decide who will become the succesor of BMC rider Greg van Avermaet as the winner of the 72nd Omloop Het Nieuwsblad.

    HOORAY! The season proper is upon us!

    I've not ploughed through this whole thread so don't know if it was already mentioned, but Eurosport seem to be showing this live tomorrow (Eurosport 2 from 1:45), which is nice considering (IIRC) it has been overlooked in previous years.

    I think we can agree it was a decent, entertaining, opening weekend for the classics, no?

    We were lucky in that the riders who seemed to be in form (Sagan, GvA, Sep, Stuyver), are all riders who like to race and like to get on with attacking.

    If it stays like this it is set to be a fascinating prospect.

    The real big IFs are still

    a) how much more can Sagan improve - both a salivating and a terrifying prospect
    b) what can Degenkolb, Boonen and Kristoff do to change this

    I don't think it sheds much more colour on MSR, but then it rarely does anyway.

    I tend to be a bit meh about MSR these days - lovely images in the last hour of racing, but a 6 hour race ending in a 30 man bunch sprint doesn't really excite, but appreciate that's my personal view. As it is I always seem to be on holiday without TV coverage for it these days anyway.

    As for when they get back to Belgium - you're right, it's going to be cracking. I think Degenkolb will be in there - Trek seem to have a decent squad and he's got to have some hunger for it after last year. Not so much Kristoff - just doesn't seem quite the same level (I know he crashed on Saturday). Am hoping for a final glorious ride for Boonen at P-R - if he can manage to stay upright for a week...

    Sort of gutted GvA won Omloop - as clearly this now discounts him for Flanders etc.....

    in Omloop he was bridging between groups rather easily, but he was dropped on the Kwaremont in Kuurne - and it's not like it was a surprise move that created the gap.

    I felt the same thing with BMC on Sunday.
    GVA kind of making up the numbers, yet 5 riders in the penultimate selection, but no pecking order.
    Top weekend though.
    Looking forward to the minor Belgian fixtures, tomorrow and Sunday, as well as SB on Saturday.
