Odds on van Keirsbulk being in the big break in Flanders?

Thoroughly enjoyed le Samyn; a decent little event over the last few years giving second string riders (the likes of van Keirsbulck, Keisse, Debusschere) a chance to prove themselves worthy of a chance in the bigger races.

Also looking forward to the next Napoleon Games event, though its a pity the 3 days of West Flanders has been cut back to one day.

I was also pleased to see the Sluitingprijs has been rescued from oblivion, though too late to make it into the Napoleon Games this year.

    That grinding uphill finish. Crikey.
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.
  • Is Le Samyn the one that goes down narrow farm tracks and stuff?

No it was more 'standard' cobbles and knarly road climbs.

Think you may be thinking of Tro Bro Leon in France?

There's also Omloop van Het Hageland, which Terpstra won last August. Caught it by chance one afternoon - at times it looked like they were nipping through peoples back gardens and down alleyways. Brilliant.

Was gonna say, pretty sure the commentators were going on about it being in Belgium... Although given it's Eurosport that probably doesn't mean much...

It's definitely in Belgium, just across the border from Valenciennes, to the west of Mons.

Some decent names on the startline: Quintana, Nibali, A.Yates, Uran and Milan-San Remo favourite Simon Clarke*. Interesting to see how Bernal goes.

Ah yes that rings a bell!

I'm cycling between Valencienes and Mons next year, hopefully will avoid the cobbles!

IS DDWV on any feed this afternoon - apparently, the weather is vile which might well make for a spectacular race

Your display pic has got me thinking.

I wonder what Ulle would have been like tackling the cobbles.

    Beyond being fat, obviously.

Not been mentioned but Sep crashed at Strade Bianche and then pulled up at GP Larciano. Hope he's ok. Due to ride Tirreno...

He was a pretty handy one day rider. Probably could have done well in both the cobbled and Ardennes classics if he actually bothered to ride a bike through winter.

Ach, with a chunk of Sacher torte in one pocket & a jar of Nutella in another, he'd have been fine

I thought the secret with Ullrich was to have a team car drive ahead of him with a jar of Nutella on the rear parcel shelf?

Wasn't that the cause of the pre-Tour crash in, if memory serves, 2001? Ullrich's form was so good that the ds driving didn't go fast enough and Jan seized his opportunity.

Still, you've got to be some one day rider if you can turn around to Klodi and Vino and tell them if they don't work with you they're getting dropped.

Boonen will get all the attention but I have a real hunch Gilbert is going to be really interesting.
