Bike shop informed me today that Cube have agreed my bike BB shell isn't right. When fitting a new press fit BB last week I could push the drive side cup in by hand.

Just awaiting the next step now.

Unfortunately, my Cube hasn't been right since I bought it. I may have finally found the cause of my issues.
  • Has anybody used this bike on a tacx flux? I've just bought the turbo for the winter but see conflicting info about what axle I need, X12 etc.
  • Has anyone bought the new design mudguards? I want to get a set and they say clearance for up to 28mm - except GP4000 28mm tyres come up pretty wide so I have a feeling I'd have to go back down to 25mm for winter, which isn't ideal for me really.
  • Wow, took the Cube down from the rack after not really been used since the early Spring. Front wheel bearings are dead! Grinding like a fell runners knees!

    Stripped and new bearings ordered.

Not tried the new guards, but I had the old versions and the stock Conti tyres (25mm) had plenty of clearance. Can't vouch for "big" 28s though...

That's what has held me back, but I was looking at the guards over the weekend from the link earlier this year, now autumn is approaching...

I've not even bothered trying to fit the £9 RoadRacer Mk3s I bought months ago, but then I've still yet to see if the old pair of 32mm Houffalize CX tyres will fit on the bike on the Fulcrum wheels, while keeping the GP4000s on the Hunt set!

  • I just want to upgrade from the Raceblades I use - they’re great at keeping me dry, but the design of the rear one means the bike still gets covered in more crap that I’d like.
  • The Attain Disc mudguards now officially exist on the Cube website!

    https://www.cube.eu/uk/equipment/accessories/mudguards/

Still not many sites coming up on google with them to sell, there's Tredz (but they are awful for telling stock and estimated delivery porkies) and the site listed here earlier in the summer...
    https://www.durham.cubebikestore.eu/858 ... ttain.aspx

Just found this video review of the guards https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ3tOwhRU2w

Thinking I might actually order a pair, just hope my provisional winter 28mm Rubino Pro G+ tyres expected this weekend will fit under them, if not I could always use them on the Voodoo and order a winter "25mm" (which would be ~27mm wide in Conti 4 Seasons).

  • Fitted these to my bike with 28mm GATORSKINS - clearance is fine. Also found that one of the supplied 20mm screws isn't quite long enough for the bridge so a 25mm screw is required. The little brkts need to be installed correctly so they give max clearance from the wheel.

Any chance you can measure up how wide the 28mm gators actually are? My GP4000’s come up somewhere over 30...

GP4000S are really wide. My 25mm GP4000S are very close to being as wide as my 28mm GP 4 Seasons.

Yeah, it's why I have a feeling 28mm 4000's aren't going to fit under the guards...

Fitted the new Cubeguards recently after my Gen I's failed. I can't actually see much difference in them. However....the rear seat stay bridge bit is odd- it seems the screws supplied aren't quite long enough to pass thru the two interfacing parts. I had to use a longer bolt I had I the toolbox.

Oh, and another tip. Rip the shoddy bit of foam off the bridge connectors and rather put some Heli tape around the seat stays. The foam bits squirm and migrate out of the connection as soon as you torque them up, and you'll find your bridge bracket starts to migrate down the stays.

Still running the stock Contis on there. They're 25s but look bigger- maybe 27mm. Clearance is ok.

On another note, there was some discussion re the poor rear shifting a while back. Either poor cables or poor cable routing. Has anyone swapped the rear cable out yet and improved the shifting?
  • Any chance of a pic showing what clearance you get with the 25's on?
  • Any chance of a pic showing what clearance you get with the 25's on?

Yep, I'll measure the tyres with caliper and take a pic tmrw

So 27mm was pretty much spot-on for the Conti's.

A "true" 28mm shouldn't be a problem with proper adjustment of the guard stays/ bridge.
  • Cheers for that. Pretty much confirms what I've thought - there's no way on earth 28mm GP4000's will fit.

Time to order some new winter tyres... Quite fancy trying Panaracer Gravelkings...

    I missed this earlier.

So, it's not just me then who got a bum-deal with the short screw
  • I might get around to risking an order for the Attain Disc Mudguard from Tredz, but in the meantime, I finally fitted the rear of the £10 Crud Mk3 mudguard I got from Halfords months ago. Now it's been years since I've had proper mudguards (rather than SKS Beavertails or the SKS Fatguard) on a bike, but the clearance with the 700x28 https://www.merlincycles.com/vittoria-r ... 87381.html is very tight around the drivetrain protection bit, it relies on the zip tie securing it to the seat tube for the wheel to spin freely.

Edit: Decided to fit the 28mm 4 Seasons before a short shakedown with the rear mudguard, having done the Cube's first chain and cassette replacements earlier today. All felt great, except that mudguard. which was occasionally catching (I think at rearmost bit of guard)... Needs another fettle before the Cube's next ride.

  • To answer my own question re the awful rear shifting action on the bike, I can confirm new (Shimano), cables n outers solved the sticky up-shift. Jagwireshite

Thanks for coming back and confirming. That was going to be my proposed solution if, or more likely when, the dodgy shifting reappears on junior's (rim braked) Attain.

I do wonder how many cents they save on the build by using Jagwire cables and fitting unbranded but clearly Tektro calipers instead of Ultegra...

Yep, the routing actually seems fine. Even the chainstay allows for a full stay length of outer to be run which then slots into the little cable guide under the BB. I also took the opportunity to get rid of the in-line barrel adjuster, as I’ve never like them- they seem to cause more issues than not.

The Jagwire cable outers were well rusted at almost every section end. I’d give them the benefit of the doubt if I could say I’d ridden out in foul weather a lot last winter, but most of my training was done on the turbo tbh.

Everything else seems fine, and have to admit I’m quite enjoying the “arm-chair”, riding after spending most of the year on Foil and Addict taughtness…
  • Well I bit the bullet and ordered a pair of the official v2 mudguards from Tredz at ~1600 on Wednesday... And with free delivery they arrived this morning!

And like everyone else from what I've read, my set have exactly the same inventory issue, all three of the supplied longer M5 bolts are not long enough to go through the supplied seat stay and reach the nut, so I need to source a M5x25mm bolt.

Yet to tighten all the fittings, but clearance for 700x28 Conti GP 4 Seasons looks ok, albeit slightly better at the rear than the front.

How are you getting on with this setup? Are the 28mm 4 seasons working with the Cube guards?
  • How are you getting on with this setup? Are the 28mm 4 seasons working with the Cube guards?

The urgency to source an M5x25 for the rear mudguard bridge support went completely off the boil, as a combination of pants weather and going away meant I think the Cube only did one outdoor ride in November... The front guard was fine on that ~40 miler though, I took the rear guard off before heading out for that dry ride!

Due to the lack of urgency, I've not looked around much, but Cube's mistake at not supplying the correct bolt length looks like I may have to spend close to ~£10 on a pack of various bolts I don't need. I guess I could always try contacting Cube to see if they will send one out, because everyone here who has bought this v2 guard set has this same bolt issue.

  • Don't suppose anyone on this thread that has upgraded their wheels has a Racing77 front that they want to sell? :( :?

hey guys - anyone used this bike with a Tacx Flow Smart (T2240)? I've recently got one but I'm having trouble with the thru axle compatibility. I borrowed a Kinetic thru axle from a mate but I don't think the cups on the end are correct - they're a bit more cone shaped than the more rounded ones on the QR skewer that came with the trainer

just want to check I'm not missing something before I buy the actual Tacx thru axle which I'm assuming will have the rounded cups

    cheers!

sorry to post again... I know the axle is X12, so I'm assuming either of these will work

anyone have any experience with either of them?
  • Hi,

I have the Tacx Vortex and the T1711 E-Thru adapter. Been working fine now for over a year. Was a pain trying to find the right one.

Great, glad to know at least there is an adapter that works! Where did you get it from?

Spent many an hour trying to work out which one and then where to get one. Think I ended up with this one:
