Wiggins the legend!

Unless you appreciate it for what it is.
I was at Wiggin's hour record and what could be more boring than one man riding at *exactly* the same pace for and hour while not moving a single muscle except his legs. Every lap was identical. Mechanical. Dull dull dull. Except somehow it was thrilling - we were watching a perfectly executed ride by one of the greatest athletes ever at the top of his game.
Wiggin's Tour - like Cav's World's - were exciting because they put their cards of the table and said "We're the best rider in the world and we're going to ride how we want. I dare you to do something about it." We were watching excellence.
Agreed. I appreciate we all have different tastes, but for me watching him on top of his game was watching absolute excellence.0 -

On the 2012 Tour, totally by accident, I stumbled across this post whilst looking for something else.
Suffice to say, I'm sure that wasn't the original intended picture.
Made me chuckle nonetheless.

Difficult one as his Olympic record alone puts him in an elite group of British athletes and then he has his road, TT and hour record on top yet during his career he wasn't even in the argument as to the best cyclist of his generation. I guess it depends where you rank track vs road - if you view him as a track specialist who won the Tour it is a greater achievement than if you view him as a second rank GT contender who sneaked a Tour win in a year that lacked a one of the greats competing.
It's a bit like comparing apples and pears but I think if you are discussing the greatest British sportspeople he should get a mention.[Castle Donington Ladies FC - going up in '22]0 -
Personally I'd rather have the palmares of at least 5 of his contemporaries. Maybe even 7-8 (if ignoring (suspected) doping cases like Contador/Valverde). So I think he was a great cyclist, but not one of the greatest. He had great wins, but so many gaps in between (especially on the road). The true greats tend to do it day in and day out with slight exceptions of guys who only target the Tour de France.
Palmares I'd rather have in no particular order.
Cancellara
Boonen
Cavendish
Nibali
Froome
Contador
Sagan (if he continues at current pace)
And possibly even
Phil GilbertPTP Champion 2019, 2022 & 20230 -

Lolz. Based on the fact he spent NY skiing in Val d'Isere with his family and friends0 -
Now confirmed to appear on The Jump
Jeez Brad.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.0 -
Fer reelz? Disappoint. Even I can't conjure up anything good about this. Sometimes I think he goes looking for arseache.0

He's going to love keeping his weight down for the ski-jumping. :-DWarning No formatter is installed for the format0

You can imagine him going ok down the Bobsleigh run, with Cav and Bernie sat watching at home going 'meh, we'd still descend quicker'.
On a serious point though half the people who did that show last year ended up crocked, some pretty seriously. Can't be worth the risk surely.0 -

I don't think anyone would claim he had the greatest road palmares.
You can't ignore the track side of Wiggins. The combination is what makes his career special. For a track rider to move to being the best road time triallist and to win the TdF is remarkable. And then back again to win world and Olympic titles on the track.0 -

Agreed - but even with not racing again, the potential general life impact of some of those injuries should make anyone think again about doing that show.0 -
