Mud, mud, glorious mud, nothing quite like it for pïssing off Vlad.

You'd have thought they'd have known by now.

As one wit put it, 'Vlad, you regard Ukraine as part of Russia. So being the military genius you clearly are, you invaded Russia - in winter....'

I saw a report saying Russians had allegedly blown up a load of ammunition near a nuclear power station. Anyone know what the significance of this is? Trying to damage the power station? Mutiny?

Is the way they were firing those mortars standard? The guy was more or less looking down the tube when he dropped one of them in, felt like he was lucky not to blow his own head off!
I noticed that. Nearly did that with a firework once. Not my finest moment. Would fancy my chances better with a firework than a mortar though.

As I said above, regardless, it's top trolling by Gove. If it gets bogged down in legalities or whatever at least is was worth a try. And if he had already done it, you'd be whingeing that there aren't many oligarchs houses and it's not enough to help the refugees....go on, admit it, whatever the nasty torwies did or didn't do, you'd find a way to criticise.

Oh come on. Even with blue tinted eyeglasses, it's BS. Even the 'independent' Independent article states legal barriers etc etc. And given London law firms enjoy mega fee splurges for all manner of questionable cases, bring it on. Betcha there's several #toryscum mates / 'sponsors' licking their fat lips at the prospect.

Can you rephrase that so your point is a bit clearer? And has some evidence to back up whatever you're trying to say.

I’m not particularly hardline by nature, but for me the only outcome from this is the Western world has to fully turn its back on Russia and only consider reversing the sanctions if and when Russia abides with how the Western world operates.

You mean only bombing the cr@p out of third world countries?
Rather than 3rd world it can only be people who do not look, dress and live like us.

I find the difference in response in my local community to this disaster compared to Afghanistan, Syria or Iraq both puzzling and disturbing.
I couldn't agree more extremely disturbing.

Retired Commanding General of the US Army Europe Ben Hodges was on CNN saying Russia is on course to reach ‘culminating point’ in approx. 10 days. I wasn’t aware of this military term (I’m sure MF was).

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culminating_point

To summarise his interview, he basically said they’re a shambles and Kyiv is far too big and way too prepared to be taken by the Russians.

The racism is the more enthusiastic welcome for Ukrainian refugees than for refugees of other countries, but presumably the point is that it is better some people are housed rather than nobody.

In this case the government could change laws and do it retrospectively to thwart these cases. I am pretty sure if the legislation was suitably tight to only affect rich Russians not many Brits would care.

We've been through this. They could but they're not going to. It's difficult and costly and they have a short attention span.

Some of the evidence posted previously (Possibly by you IIRC?) would appear to point to this. Likewise, even if they do 'win' the challenge of trying to keep a country of around 40m people (who are almost entirely hostile to the invaders) subdued seems beyond them.

    Thanks for posting.

It's also a slippery slope when a government legislates as to who can be legally represented in relation which other laws.

Listening to the news on the radio set off some synapses in my head. (Had to happen some time). I did a search and we were discussing the possibility of today back in January 2021. Gets going on page 1646 of the Brexit thread.
Some posts aged well, others not so much.
