I think Foreign Secretary Liz Truss telling Lavrov that Rostov is a disputed area and Russia needs to get out, is slightly more worrying than a backbench MP getting Croatia mixed up with Crimea or whatever to a british audience.

But i guess being white and a tory gets her a free pass?

Yes, that's why nobody here has anything bad to say about Liz Truss.

Yes to be fair I've seen plenty joking about Biden mixing up Ukrainians with Iranians.

So the Russian attempts to assassinate Zelenskyy.

I've always assumed leaders didn't go in for targeting their opposite number - if only because it might be reciprocated.

Another long but informative thread about Russia's oil and gas industry and its dependence on western expertise and markets.

If the description of pipeline contracts being awarded specifically to maximise contractor profits applies to military procurement as well, you can see why their army is in such a state.

errr its the way military procurement contracts have always been made.

    three priorities when doing them:

    1. contractor's profit
    2. kick back level to politicians
    3. anything more money left over split between 1 & 2.

No one gives a monkey's about whether the kit they are giving to people to use is any good - its all about the Franklins to 1 and 2 above.

And don't forget all this marketing bollox about "military grade" being any good.

military grade is the cheapest possible item to do the bare minimum of what is in the required brief.

doesn't actually have to be any good, just has to hit bare minimum requirements and be as cheap as possible.

i've mentioned this before - its actually been a long running joke at work.

thing is, the govt aren't just losing money on the project but theres a load of compo claims going in that cost them a fortune.

    These evacuation routes then?
    Anyone trust them. I wouldn’t.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.

Clearing civilians is probably seen as a good thing for Russia too as they can then give up any pretence that they aren't targeting civilians "we allowed civilians to leave so anyone left is a combatant".

I wouldn’t be fully trusting, but if the choice for someone holed up in a besieged city is between taking a risk in the evacuation route or staying and having artillery shells rain down I’d probably go with the evacuation option.

Sure, but there are degrees of corruption and a spectrum that of incompetence. In my line of work, anything with the word Heritage gets a big markup for no discernable reason. Not sure the UK military is using knock-off tyres just yet, though (feel free to correct me if wrong).

Not knock off tyres yet, but the issue Altbeg boots aren't made by Altberg in Yorkshire, why is they retail at £49.99 and not £179.99 like Yorkshire Altbergs.

Same as the issue Aku boots.

And they wonder why we buy our own boots.

There's a graph on twitter that claims to show the volumes frozen. I don't think it is accurate, but it raises a valid point that volume might have more impact.

Putin has declared that sanctions are an act of war.

Somehow I don’t see Zara, Paypal or Samsung sending troops to attack peace loving Russia.
