I get that but I definitely know people irl who think it's just something that's happening over there and it doesn't affect them.

So here's an unintended consequence. With Russia practically shut out of the Western economy save for a pipeline or two, Kalinigrad is in bad shape, as it's isolated and not attached to the mainland. All the usual shipping firms are refusing to dock in Russia or allow Russian ships to dock.

Eventually the Russians will secure an alternative but currently it's in bad bad shape.

I wonder if it gets too bad what Putin will want to do.

It will be a right pain to do it, and bloody expensive, but they should be able to ship supplies from St Petersburg to Kalinigrad using Russian ships.

FSB feeding information to the Ukrainians, notably regarding assassination attempts to Volodymyr Zelensky

"A source close to the group said it was “eerie” how well briefed Zelensky’s security team appeared to be"

Ukrainian officials claim the information that led to the deaths of the Chechens came from disgruntled agents in the FSB who oppose the invasion.

“I can say that we have received information from the FSB, who do not want to take part in this bloody war”

That’s interesting to read. I suspect there is a fair amount of discontent surfacing, and it will only grow.

I'm missing something but it's probably not very clever for the Ukrainians to name their source, esp if it's an inside leak.

But if it isn’t actually an inside leak, a nice distraction.

Considering the rudimentary comms in place, it may have come from simple eavesdropping or other methods of interception. Virtually the whole western worlds intelligence services are doing what they can.

Sainsbury's changes Chicken Kiev to Kyiv

The UK supermarket chain Sainsbury's has announced that it is renaming "Chicken Kiev" as "Chicken Kyiv" - reflecting Ukraine's preferred spelling of its capital city's name, as opposed to the Russian spelling used under Soviet rule.

My wife's colleague is travelling from Belfast to the Ukraine this weekend to try to get her elderly mother out of there.

I hope this courage is rewarded with the easiest possible process in getting her into the UK

Well Shapps has announced that they won't need to fill in a passenger locator form or show a negative test, so... I wish I was joking.

Can anyone explain to me how this discrepancy/deficit/p1ss poor set of numbers, and more to the point the reasons why, are not front page news / all across the news channels?

johnson harping on about his sanctions, where as in reality as a perecentage of the impact others have made, it's a drop in the ocean.

    It's embarassing.
    He should be embarassed.
    He's not though.

The serious answer is that Boris has no shame and that various newspapers are controlled by Putin puppets or are mouth pieces of the Tory party whose interests are interlinked with these people.

To understand Boris you have to understand that he has no shame.

I keep saying that being an easy option for dodgy money is a 30 year policy that the UK has become dependent upon so it is not a socialist/Boris/Tory problem.

because the Tories are funded by the Russians.

The Russians are their main donors.

    They own the Cuntservative party.

This has been known for years but people still vote for them

    Tories are scum.

Chernukhin, who is married to Vladimir Chernukhin, who served as a finance minister in Vladimir Putin's Russian government, is the biggest female donor in UK political history.

In 2014, she paid £160,000 for a game of tennis with Johnson and then-prime minister David Cameron, as well as a further £30,000 for dinner with the UK government's current education secretary, Gavin Williamson. In May last year, Chernukhin dined with ex-prime minister Theresa May and numerous female members of the Cabinet at the time, after donating £135,000 to a Conservative Party fundraising event.

Pritchard's constituency party in Shropshire, the Midlands received £5,000 from energy firm Aquind. The firm's director, Alexander Temerko, previously had several senior positions in the Russian defence ministry.

Both Villiers and Pritchard accepted the money before becoming members of the Intelligence & Security Committee.

It's a bit harsh on the US, isn't it - I thought they had a bunch of people sanctioned already even before this latest invasion.

Not aware of any such excuse for the UK.

I'm surprised at the reaction to the attack on a nuclear power station. If you accept that the war is happening it feels like a very obvious military target to capture and control.

Sure, but bombing it and/or killing the people who are preventing it from exploding doesn't seem sensible.

    Not entirely surprising, but still...

I wonder what forms of information-sharing will be the ones of choice for those wanting more than Putin-sourced disinformation.
