    Batshit aren't they?

To be fair I think they've suffered enough without being resettled amongst a bunch of inbred turnip munchers (or, worse still, Skegness).

Read Frank Gardners update. That massive 40 mile long convoy of tanks and guns is b0llocks. It's lots of separate supply convoys and they're knackered! The NLAW boys need to get there fast.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-europe-60542877

Most of the TV reports were showing aerial footage of what was obviously trucks whilst talking about tanks. If we say each truck takes 20m that would be 80 trucks per mile so over 3000 trucks. Could be a lot of troops but then a lot of them would also need to be carrying supplies.

Why is it that so many breastfedbynannyuntilschool tories have such difficulty distinguishing between asylum and immigration?

    They'm just furriners, innum?

Actually, I think it's deliberate: they're all 'not like us', and if they confuse the two in the minds of the gullible, then the objective is achieved.

How does a Tory MP know they aren't like us if he never mixes with the great unwashed?

That clip makes me ashamed to be English, to be honest.

Very insightful interview with Fiona Hill (who is about as expert as you can get on the subject) on Putin, historical context, and possible outcomes linked below. Well worth a read.

Thought this was an interesting development - taken from the BBC website:

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi and and his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba, have discussed the conflict engulfing the eastern European nation in a call.

Wang told Kuleba he "deeply regrets" the conflict and is "paying extreme attention to the harm suffered by civilians", according to the AFP news agency quoting Chinese state media.

He also called for both sides to "find a way to resolve the issue through negotiations", the same source reported.

In the call, which marks the first between the two men since Russia's invasion on Thursday, Kuleba asked Beijing to use its ties with Moscow to help halt the invasion, the Reuters news agency said.

Wang is said to have offered to make every effort to end the violence diplomatically, the agency wrote.

Last week, defying expectation from experts, China abstained from a UN Security Council vote condemning the invasion of Ukraine.

Some analysts had expected Beijing to join Russia in voting against the motion.

Thanks to whoever posted the Fiona Hill interview.

(She’s very interesting in her own right. Thick northern accent - very dismissive of the UK: basically she feels she could not have got where she is in the Uk because of her accent and class)

I quite liked the insurance analogy - that resonated the most - but then I am a big believer in deterrence.

Putin is not a man for restraint. We all knew this. Even Russians who voted for him. They had a choice multiple times and chose this.

Every time I see a map of Ukraine, all I can see is that big ol' river and think that'll be the partition line.

Wonder what Biden means when he said in his State of the Union speech “ You have no idea what’s coming.” Seeing as the West won’t do anything militarily, is there much more that can be done? Not clear what further economic sanctions there could be, beyond what is already in place.

Interesting article by the Royal United Services Institute (the UK’s leading defence and security think tank) on why the Russian Air Force haven't turned up to the fight (hint - they're a bit sh1t and out of bombs):

    The sanctions are massive.

There was a lot of fawning over Putin pre-invasion about how powerful he is, but what the US is doing to the Russian economy really shows who is the global superpower and who isn't.
